UT OH - Oops...where's Connette Gayle? There she is with all
the other miracle pad project volunteers at First Baptist (on the
second row standing). While she was listed as being in the
photo last week, she disappeared on the composing room floor
when the picture was shaved to fit. She's back this week.
Visitin’
Seated in parsons chairs
around a huge round mahogany
pedestal table in the opulent din
ing room, I asked, “Dr. King,
whatever brought you to Perry in
retirement 5 "
King responded, “I found it in
a magazine.” True, he and his sis
ter drove to the New Perry Hotel
from Washington, D.C. to answer
an ad in Southern Living maga
zine for a raised cottage.
That didn't work out for them
but four trips later they acquired
the Dr. Bo Arnall home off
Tucker Road where his brother
and sister resided with him until
their deaths. He related that a
neighbor in the upscale section of
Washington where he resided
while a practicing obstetrician
was heard to say, “I want to hire
the man that does Dr. King’s
yard.'
That man was Dr. King. He
enjoys gardening and his friendly
neighbors here. He told us that he
attended the delivery of television
news personality Connie Chung
and that her mother was beautiful
also.
Another table of eight
brunched in the sunny ivy covered
breakfast room overlooking the
swimming pool. Jackie had gath
ered most of the recipes we were
assigned to prepare from
Southern Livings. That magazine
just kept turning up in a home
that could surely be featured in a
future issue.
Here’s the recipe I spent hours
peeling and stirring to prepare
doubled.

Caramel Syrup
