Puppet ministry almost
25 years old at FBC
By CHARLOTTE
PERKINS
Of all die families at First
Baptist of Perry', there’s one
you can always count on to be
in die spodight, teaching
lessons through laughter.
That’s the Lovejoy family
a cast of puppets which
have been part of an ongoing
ministry for almost a quarter
of a century.
The Lovejoys, with the help
of Jimmy and Colleyne
Connell and a team of volun
teers, will present their newest
production, "AmeriKids, In
God We Trust" at the church
at 7 p.m. on April 25.
According to the Connells,
who have coordinated die
puppet ministry since its
inception in 1976, the play
deals with the faith of the
founding fathers, and has such
characters as R.S. the
Recording Secretary, Miss
Dorian the Historian, Pip, the
smallest delegate from the
state of Rhode Island.
Yacky Doodle, the conven
tion chairman.
Songs include “Sing the
States," “Build on the Word” ,
“Armed Forces Medley,” and
“Bought with a Price.”
The puppet ministry of
FirstHaptist has performed in
New York, Washington, D.C.,
Detroit, Atlanta and at
churches, clubs and schools
across Houston County.
The current puppeteers are
bod adults and young people,
and include Miranda Garren,
Pam Smith, Hanna Gentry,
David Loudermilk, Tucker
Ellis, Sandy Smith, Mabel
Collins, Sandra Long, and the
Connells.
Headier Reed is the cos
tumer.

BASE The Museum of
Aviation at Robins Air Force
Base will offer a unique and
inexpensive summer program for
children in grades K-8.
During the months of June
and July, the museum will offer
an array of innovative and fun
Summer Odesey classes.
Officials said classes will offer
children the opportunity to try
on a flight suit, explore a C-130
aircraft, learn about the fastest
[>lane in the world, hear Indian
egends and learn Indian sign
language.
Participants will also meet a
female bomber pilot and much
more.
“The program is great because
children are able to pick and
choose the classes that interest
them the most,” said Tracy
Twedell, assistant director of
education.
“They learn a lot and have fun
at the same time,” Twedell
added.
All classes are from 10 a.m. -
noon, with the exception of the
Aim High program, which is
from 9 a.m. to noon. Each class
costs $lO.
Reservations must be made
with advanced payment.
