the public relations war for a minute.
Has Mr. Milosevic won that one?
NUNN: Oh no, I don’t think so.
I think he’s antagonized his neigh

body around him. I think he’s lost
world opinion. He’s got some
countries rallying behind him,
.because some countries resent, any
invasion of sovereignty.

about. When we have less than a
vital interest N and we certainly
don’t have a vital interest in Kosovo,
but we have an important interest
now, and it’s getting more impor

it started as a humanitarian mission.
We’ve got to find better tools,
because when you really are trying
to affect the hearts and minds of
E'ople, not conquer territory, not

because this is their country, then
you have an obligation to think
through your strategy. And I don’t
think we've done that very well.
We’ve got important tools we
haven't used, for instance, informa

trying to turn the Serbian people
against Milosevic before we started
bombing.

situation.

While trust between communi

We have the most powerful infor
mation tools that any country in
the history of the world has ever
had. We used some of them in the
Persian Gulf. Some of them are
highly classified. But this was a
perfect spot, to use it.
When you bomb a population,
even when vou try to avoid civilian
casualties N and we’re certainly
trying to do that, and doing a pret
ty good job of it I think N but
when you do that, you turn the
people toward the leader. And in
this case, our primary goal for some
weeks and the last several weeks,
should have been to turn the
Serbian people against their leader
before we bombed, if we had to
start bombing at all.
NELSON: Next question,
probably the last one we’ll be able
to get in: Is NATO in danger of
losing Russia?
NUNN: I think that’s a big, big
danger here, and that’s when you
have to distinguish between vital
interests and important or humani
tarian interests. Russia’s emergence
as a part of the community of
nations, avoiding the proliferation of
weapons of mass destruction out of
Russia today, as their economy
crumbles, is a vital interest to the
United States. We are alienating
Russia. They feel isolated; they feel
humiliated; they feel not listened to.
Now, we can’t give them a veto,
nor should we, but we should have

We still should do that. And as we

to involve the Russians.

There are a wide variety of peanut
pest control products available to
growers in die peanut market.

Products is

Zeneca's

• STARFIRE* herbicux
• BRAVO ULTREX* fongicide
• ABOUND* fongicide
• KARATE* Z insecticide
Starfire is a contact herbicide that
controls most small annual broadlcaf
weeds and grasses and suppresses
perennial weeds by destroying green
foliage at ground crack. Since
Starfirc is rapidly absotbed by weed
foliage, ram occurring 30 minutes
after application will have no effect
on activity. Starfire tank mixes easily
with numerous herbicides for residual
or improved weed control.
A fungicide program of Bravo
Ultrex and Abound is the most
powerful way to protea your
peanuts from both foliar and soil
borne diseases. On a 10- to 14-day
spray schedule, substitute Abound
for Bravo at 60 and 90 days after
planting for proven control of peg
and pod rot, white mold and leaf
spot.A fungicide program of
Abound and Bravo Ultrex is a
one-of-a-kind resistance manage
ment tool that provides yield and
quality improvements. In fact, in
on-farm, side-by-side comparisons,
the Abound/Bravo Ultrex foil-season
program outyielded the Folicur*
program by 300 pounds and provided
2 points of grade improvement.
Karate Z insectiade controls the
entire range of foliar insect pests
that attack peanuts, eliminating the
need for tank mixing or other costly
insecticide applications. The unique
quick-release, encapsulated
formulation of Karate Z gives a fast
knockdown plus long residual
control of late-season insects.
