WEDNESDAY,
JULY 31

Center Theater) A remarkable, joyful
and tuneful tribute to the so-much-
more-than country singer Patsy
Cline. The show features many of the
songs that Cline made famous. 8
p.m.
“An Evening with Andrew Lloyd
Webber” (Morton Theatre) The title
pretty much says it all, eh? 7.30 p.m.

and that's exactly what wili happen
here at the Theatre from today
trough Aug 3. The show features

ester with the Boston-based Beijo do
Brasil band, whose members have

Hayes and Neguinho da Beija Flor.

Brasiieira. Baiao and more The show
runs all night, from 9 p.m.-2 a.m., and
DJs will oe spinning Brazilian music
Detween sets. Tickets arc available
through Ticketmaster ana at the door.
Rev n up!
David Barbe (Atomic Music Hal!)
Barbe might be pulling out a faw sur
prises for his solo show tonight. He
was unsure, last time I talked to him,
whether or not he'd be joined by any
one or whether he'd be playing some
material you might not expect from
having seen his solo shows previ
ously. Your best bet is to just show
up and see for yourself.
Brian Burke A No Tollin' (Allen s)
There’s no teilin' who this Normaltown
Flyer will be playing with tonight.
Expect some downhome country and
everything from Elvis to Hank to the
Rolling Stones.
Laura Chandler (Garden Stage)
Soulful, poetic musings from San
Francisco. Playing from noon-3 p.m.
Deja (Garden Stage) Hailing from
Trinidad, Deja plays Caribbean
dance music regularly at Epcot Cen
ter. Playing from 3:30-6:30 p.m
Hot Burritos (Garden Stage) Play
ing from 9:30-10:30 p.m.
In Like Flynr. (DT's Down Under)
Song-oriented Southern boogie-
woogie. T hey have a CD out, The
Factory, and another one in the
works
Ichiban Blues Showcase (Clas
sic Center) Blues. 9 p.m.
Koncak (Atomic Music Hall) To say
that Koncak's first show blew my
socks oft would be a tremendous
understatement. Nuci Phillips does
things with an acoustic guitar that
lust boggle the mind. His songs are
often lightning fast, but they're still
haunting and terribly sad sounding
— they have heart where most tech
nical songs lose it. This is a great
band in the making Playing with
David Barbe (and Barbe may in fact
be playing bass for Koncak tonight).
Wanran Southall (City Bar) The
Simpletons' main man, solo. 5-8 p.m
Squat (High Hat) Jazz with some
furky beats.
Star Room Boys (40 Watt) They're
battling against the Professor and his
Woggles in the grudge match of the
cennnnntuuuuurrrrryyyy! There will
be two sets by each band, and al
though Dave Marr is not a guy I’d
wanna mess with, you've probably
never seen Manfred Jones when he's
angry.
Marc Tissanbaum (Atomic Music
Hall) Playing with David Barbe.
Tho Woggles (40 Watt)They're bat
tling against the Star Room Boys in
the grudge match of the
cennnnntuuuuurrrrryyyy! Then will
be two sets by each band it's the
Garage Boys vs. the Country Boys,
and I'll bet both of 'em fight dirty.
THURSDAY,
AUGUST 1
“An Evening with Andrew Lloyd

“Arranca Brasil!" (Georgia The

Atheneum (Atomic Music Hall)
Opening for Hazel Virtue.
Bloodkin (High Hat) Song-oriented,
dark Southern rock. There’s a Terry
Kay novel called Dark Thirty (refer
ring to the 30 minutes before the twi
light goes dark), and Bloodkin’s dis
tinctly Southern acoustic music re
minds me uf the mood of that novel,
and likewise of its heritage-steeped
content. The band will release a new
CD in September.
Junior Brown (Classic Center) All
reports from past South By Southwest
shows generally include a total rave
of one Junior Brown and how he blew
everyone and everything away.
Opening lor The Mavericks, who ain't
too shabby themselves. 9 p.m.
Daisy (40 Watt) The former Athens
band lives in Philadelphia now, and
can say that former Daisy drummer
Ben Mize is now a full-fledged mem
ber of the Counting Ciows, because
it’s true. Philly to Athens is a heck of
a drive, but it s not every day that you
get to open foi Guadalcanal Diary, so
I'm sure the trek was well worth it.
The real question is, is Dave Zwart's
body still falling apart?
The Fountains (DT’s Down Under)
Ail around great rock, country and
folk. They play like their lives depend
on it, and it's never sounded so good.
Guadalcanal Diary (40 Watt) Man.
the Guadalcanal reunion show earlier
this year was one of the best shows
I've ever seen in my life. It was so
