Governor Sonny Perdue presents award to Savannah Arts.
Governor Sonny
Perdue and State
Superintendent of Schools
Kathy Cox honored five
schools throughout the state,
including our very own
Savannah Arts Academy,
with the Governor’s Cup tro
phy for improvement in SAT
scores.
Students, teachers and
staff received a surprise visit
yesterday from
Superintendent Kathy Cox
and Governor Perdue, who
presented them with the
Governor’s Cup trophy for
their outstanding SAT
scores.
Governor Perdue initi
ated the statewide competi
tion in 2003 as part of an
overall effort to raise
Georgia’s SAT scores. The
Governor's Cup Challenge
allows schools to compete
on three-year average gains
from their most recent SAT
average based on scores
from participating seniors in
critical reading, math and
writing. Most recent SAT
scores are obtained by com
bining the critical reading,
math and writing scores
from the most recent admin
istration of the test.
“Georgia’s students are
working harder than ever to
perform well on the SAT,”
said Governor Sonny
Perdue. “I know that dedi
cated teachers, involved par
ents and hard-working stu
dents all worked together on
this outstanding achieve
ment. I’m pleased to recog
nize their collective success
and present them with the
Governor’s Cup trophy.”
In addition to the
Governor’s Cup trophy,
Savannah Arts Academy was
awarded a $2,000 grant
towards SAT preparation
resources and their entire
junior and senior class
received T-shirts. Turner
Broadcasting System, Inc. is
a partner in the Governor’s
Cup, providing all prizes to
the winning schools.

Curbside Value Partnership
Announces Savannah as New Partner
Grassroots Education
Campaign Launches to
Encourage Recycling at the
Curb
The City of Savannah is
currently gearing up to offer
curbside recycling to their
residents at the beginning of
2009. With assistance from
the Curbside Value
Partnership (CVP), the City
of Savannah will roll out a
grassroots education cam
paign encouraging residents
to recycle curbside, rather
than simply at the drop-off
locations in the city.
“Savannah is excited to
offer curbside recycling to
our residents, and we are
proud to have been selected
as a partner community by
CVP,” said Stephanie Cutter,
Director of the Bureau of
Sanitation for the City of
Savannah. “With CVP’s sup
port and their valuable
resources and expertise, we
anticipate being able to con
vey to residents how easy
and convenient singlestream
curbside recycling really is.”
Beginning this fall and
running through 2009, CVP,
a national program designed
to help communities grow
their curbside programs
through education, will help
the City of Savannah teach
residents about the new curb-
side recycling system, specif
ically how and what can be
recycled and the benefits to
be gained.
The City will work with
CVP to implement a local
communication campaign
designed to reach city resi
dents through strategic
advertising, participation in
local events, partnerships and
media relations. Additionally,
CVP will work with
Savannah officials to unveil
the new state-wide recycling
