Picnic in the Park festivities
The City of Savannah
presented Picnic in the Park, in
Forsyth Park on Sunday, Oct.
3. This year’s event featured
Strings of the South, a special
ly formed string ensemble
under the direction of local tal
ent Eddie Wilson.
This year’s picnic theme
was “Pinknic in the Park,” in
recognition of Breast Cancer
Awareness Month. Picnickers
were encouraged to make cre
ative use of the color pink
when planning their picnics.
This was the first Picnic in the
Park to utilize Forsyth Park’s
new outdoor performance
stage and bandshell.
To mark the occasion,
musician Eddie Wilson
assembled a lush, 12-piece
string section combined with a
rhythm section, piano and
well-known local vocalists
Fluxsie Scott & Trae Gurley
into an ensemble called Strings
of the South.
Picnic in the Park was
made possible by the City of
Savannah and WSAV- 3. This
year’s picnic contest was host
ed by Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc.
