Trayvon Martin Case Watch:
Zimmerman Charged
Neighborhood watch
volunteer George
Zimmerman appeared in
court last Thursday on a sec
ond-degree murder charge in
the shooting death of
Trayvon Martin.
Judge Mark E. Herr
found probable cause to pro
ceed with the case.
Arraignment will be held on
May 29 before another
judge.
The prosecutors must
prove Zimmerman's shoot
ing of Martin was an act of
hatred or ill will and discred
it his story that he shot
Martin to protect himself
Trayvon Martin
while patrolling his gated
community in the Orlando
suburb of Sanford.
Zimmerman's lawyers
only have to prove by a pre
ponderance of evidence, in
legal terms this is a low stan
dard of evidence, that he
acted in self-defense at a
pretrial hearing to prevent
the case from going to trial.
Currently,
Zimmerman’s defense attor
ney, Mark O’Mara filed
paper work to get Circuit
Judge Jessica Recksiedler
off the case.
Recksiedler’s husband
is the law partner of a CNN
legal analyst who first was
approached to represent
Zimmerman.
