Food Bank Accepting Candidates for
Community/ Kitchen Culinary Arts
America’s
Second dents learn life skills and for the food bank’s Kids
Harvest of Coastal Georgia
is currently accepting candi
dates for its Community
Kitchen/Culinary Arts job
training program. This free
program prepares partici
pants for jobs in the culinary
field through a combination
of classroom instruction and
hands-on meal production
experience in Grace’s
Community Kitchen, a com
mercial culinary facility.
Classes meet from 9am to
noon, Monday through
Friday.
Community
Kitchen/Culinary Arts is an
initiative of America's
Second Harvest that address
es job training needs in
Savannah. The program
offers a concise, 18 week
course, during which stu-
culinary skills. Participants
spend the first nine weeks in
the classroom learning culi
nary theory and food safety;
acquiring practical skills
such as budgeting, resume
writing and job interviewing;
and assistance in obtaining a
GED, if needed. Participants
are trained to achieve
ServSafe certification
through the program, identi
fying them as persons who
have mastered a national
food safety and sanitation
course accredited by the
American National
Standards Institute and the
Conference for Food
Protection. They spend the
second nine weeks in
Grace’s Community Kitchen
for hands-on culinary experi
ence, daily preparing meals
Cafe sites which feed more
than 2,500 local children
who are at-risk for hunger.
The next class begins in
July. Applicants must be at
least 18 years of age, unem
ployed or underemployed
and able to fully commit to
the 18 week program.
Interested persons must sign
up for a mandatory assess
ment session no later than
July 18 to be accepted for the
Community
Kitchen/Culinary Arts job
training program. For more

Chatham Area Transit Holds Meeting
CAT announced the
July meeting of the restruc
tured CAT Board will take
place on Thursday, July 12,
2012, at 11AM at the
Savannah International
Trade & Convention Center,
One International Boulevard
on Hutchinson Island. This
preliminary meeting will be
held in the staff board room,
whereas all subsequent
meetings for this year, will
be held in the Sergeant
Jasper Board Room. This
meeting will include the
election of board officers.
There will not be any action
items on the agenda for this
meeting.

Central's Health
Ministry along with St.
Francis Cabrini and Temple
of Glory attended a Faith-
Based Wellness Summit.
On May 19, 2012,
Central Missionary Baptist
Church Health Ministry
hosted a "How to Create a
Wellness Clinic.”
Later this year they will
host another clinic to get
other churches on board.
Central's goals are to work
diligently to place the
top for conquering obesity,
smoking, and sedentary liv
ing., all which plays a huge
role in developing cardiovas
cular diseases and diabetes.
The Public Health
Dept., the African American
Association, Bluknowledge,
Community Cardiovascular
Counsel, Forsyth Park
Farmers Market were all
contributors to the success of
Central’s Health Ministry.
