Tour . The tour kicked off
November 16, the singer
will headline all dates and
be joined by openers Guor-
don Banks and American
Idol star, La’Porsha Renae.
The tour will take them
throughout the east coast
hitting Savannah on Thurs
day, December 1, 2016 at
the Savannah Civic Center.,
8P.M..
Fans can expect to
hear a number of Fantasia’s
hits including songs off her
latest album, The Defini
tion Of.... Released on July
25, the album debuted at
#1 on Billboard’s R&B Al
bum chart, #2 on the Over
all Album chart, and #6 on
the Billboard 200 chart. The

nounce this year’s annual
Jazz at the Beach Benefit
Concert featuring Teddy
Adams and The Three Divas
(Huxsie Scott, Gina Rene,
Claire Frazier). The event is
scheduled for Sunday, De
cember 4, 2016 at 5pm, and
will be held at the historic
Beach Institute located at
502 E. Harris St. This event
will help the KTCF raise
funds to expand our staff,
grow programming and de
velop sustainable fundrais
ing capabilities.
For over 40 years,
Huxsie Scott has been de
lighting audiences with her
soulful voice. A Savannah
native, Scott loves her city
as much as it loves her.
Gina Rene, a na
tive of Savannah, began
singing in elementary school
and started her professional
career as early as high school
with other like-minded mu
sicians. Along with her own
groups, Gina has been fea
tured with The Savannah
Pops Orchestra, Savannah
Jazz Orchestra, Coastal Jazz
All-Stars, and The Savannah
Jazz Festival’s “Divas in
Jazz”.
Claire Frazier
offers a rich vocal perfor
mance in the styles of Sar
ah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald
and Nina Simone and thus
her voice is the epitome of
Classical Jazz. The depth
of her talent reaches way
beyond any category to em
brace blues, pop and cabaret

2017 celebration with the
presentation of the honorees
on Sunday, December 11,
2016 at 5p.m. In the King
Frazier Ballroom of Savan
nah State University. The
Board of the Martin Luther
King Jr. Observance Day
Association, Inc. cordially

The 2017 Parade Marshals
are: Prophetess Hazel Scott,
a retired Savannah-Chatham
County School educator,
pastor, an outstanding Gos
pel Singer and Radio Host
and a great community ac
tivist. Our second Marshal
is the Hon. Van R. Johnson,
II, Alderman, District 1.
He was elected as
the representative his Dis
trict on November 4, 2003.
He was selected by his peers
to serve as Vice Chair of the
Savannah Council. Aider-
man Johnson was re-elect
ed, November 12, 2011 and
served as Mayor Pro-Tem.
He was re-elected for a third
tenn on November 4, 2016.
Our Civil Rights Activist is:
Mrs. Shirley Miller Gamble,
a retiree of Savannah State
University, an ardent church
leader at Second Saint John
Baptist Church and a com
munity activist. Mrs. Gam
ble became a Civil Rights
Activist at the age of 16 un
der the leadership of the late
Rev. Hosea Williams and
the Crusade for Voters. Her
involvement in the move
ment continued throughout
her high school years. She
was arrested three times
with the last being in 1963,
ending with her being jailed
for eight days. She was
away from school so much
that her 3.8 GPA fell to 3.1
by the time she graduated in
1964.

vannah will host the official
portrait unveiling of former
Mayor Edna Branch Jackson
on Thursday, December 8,
2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Council
Chambers on the 2nd Floor
of City Hall. Mayor Jackson
was installed in office Janu
ary 2012 as the 65th Mayor
of Savannah becoming first
African American female to
hold that position.
Edna Branch was
re-elected to serve a third
tenn as Aldennan at Large
Post 1 on the Savannah
City Council in Novem
ber 2007. Subsequent to
her election, the members
of City Council re-elected
her to serve a second tenn
as Mayor Pro Tem, making
her the first female and first
African American Female
to hold that position on the
Council. She has served
on the Board of Directors
of the Georgia Municipal
Association (GMA) and is
the fonner president for the
12th District. While serving
on GMA’s Executive Board,
she chaired the Community
Development Policy Com
mittee. Mrs. Jackson served
two years as Chairman of
the Chatham County Mu
nicipal Association which
includes elected officials
from eight municipalities
in Chatham County. Jack-
son was recently re-elected
to the Board of Directors
of the National League of
Cities (NLC), an organiza
tion that advocates for cities
and towns across the United
States, and also is a member
of the NLC board’s Leader
ship Training Council. She
is a fonner President of the
National League of Cities’
(NLC’s) Women In Munic
ipal Government (WIMG),
which is comprised of wom
en elected officials who
serve in municipal govern
ments throughout the Unit
ed States.
