House Minority Leader Abrams
Condemns Anti-Muslim Legislation
Stacey Abrams
Georgia House
Minority Leader Stacey
Abrams condemned newly
introduced legislation that
would bar Muslim women
from wearing certain types
of religious headwear when
posing for a Georgia driv
er’s license. H.B. 3 also
makes wearing such head-
wear while driving a crimi
nal act.
“This offensive
and bigoted legislation is
a direct result of the rheto
ric we heard during Don
ald Trump’s Islamophobic
Presidential campaign,”
said Leader Stacey Abrams.
“During the past legislative
session, the Georgia House
Democratic Caucus stood
firmly against legislation
that would have enshrined
discrimination in to our
laws under the guise of reli
gious freedom. Now, in that
same spirit, we will reaffirm
our commitment to fight
ing back against legislation
that harms the free exercise
of religion and singles out
any community in our state.
In the era of an impending
administration that traffics
in xenophobia and flouts
the 1st Amendment, we
cannot afford to be silent
when Georgians’ constitu
tionally-protected rights are
threatened.”

fundraising efforts at the
Victory Celebration held at
the Hyatt Regency in Savan

goal of $8,338,000, raising
$8,465,604.
Campaign Chair
Kay Ford expressed her
gratitude to thousands of
volunteers, donors, and
ing together to raise funds
to help those in need. “One
of the many remarkable
things about United Way’s
annual fundraising cam
paigns is how the enthusi
asm and generosity of the
organization’s supporters
remain high year after year.
It would be understandable
if the effort began to feel
routine. Yet, high spirits
celebrate the conclusion of
the United Way campaign,”
remarked Ford, advisory
board chair, Savannah Mar
ket for BankSouth. “Reach
ing this milestone assures
that the support for United
Way’s funded programs and
services will continue to im
prove lives of thousands of
people in our community.”
