The nest State democratic convention
will be held the 8th of nest August.
Candidates for governor are a little back¬
ward in sending out their announcements.
Too much leisure is hurtful. When a
person's mir.d and body are both idle,
there is room for a wonderful amount of
mischief to creep in and exercise supreme
control over him.
The deadlock in the convention at
Brunswick was broken after a long and
hard light between the Gordon and Nor¬
wood delegates by the nomination of Rufus
E. Lester of Chatham.
As yet there is no opposition to Hon.
H. H. Carlton in his district for the con¬
gressional nomination. This is evidence
that his record among our national law¬
makers is satisfactory to his constituents.
Georgia and all other states of
South need more cotton factories. It is a
foregone conclusion that the South will
control the manufacture ot the cotton
of this country, and there is no good
reason why every state that produces this
staple should not share iu this great and
profitable work.
When people talk about you, don’t
allow anger to-get dominion over you.
People who talk at random seldom have
anything to otherwise employ their minds,
if any mind they chance to have. The
world has long since learned the difference
between a genuine man and the bipeds
that sometimes pass for men through mis¬
take.
Some men—nay, many men, hunger and
thirst after office. A few of them are too
modest (?) to let it bo known to the people.
Ambitious and gieedy they are, but where
is the manhood ? Such puny fellows do
their utmost stealthily to injure honest
men. Such modesty never knew a blush ;
such creatures are beyond the remotest
bounds of decency.
Go to the polls next Wednesday and
votfe. Don’t stay away and then growl if
the men you most favor are not elected.
Any man who has the privilege of voting
and does Dot use it ought never to com¬
plain of results. This way of sitting with
your hands folded in indifference and then
holding others accountable for your negli¬
gence will not always lead to pleasure in
such affairs. Act for yourself.
A. . ,,, Iexas rifle-shot . liquor and
‘ pony, a
good engineer for the turnout, in the shape
of the supposed human being described
below can raise a four-wheeled cyclone
anywhere at any time. One has recently
passed over a portion of Loo county, and
our hi other Editor over that way, after he
had in some measure gotten over his scare,
announces it to the Country after luw ...
“A Texas pony, a quart of rye whisky,
and something that looked like a m.u, ’
passe i i t.nough , c oimthvnle , ... ,, yesterday. . ,
■ his w:.s tie; Lest cyclone that has visited
as this season."
A few political soreheads ot the North
continue to interest themselves more about
the negroes of this country than about
their home affairs. Such cranks ought to
know that ours is a white man’s country,
that white men have control over it and
that this kind of government will continue
in force. Whenever the people of this
section need any advice in the manage¬
ment of their affairs, they will apply for it.
