Mr. N. P. eMtts of Dublin paid our
office a visit Tuesday.
Cold weather is here. Yes, it has
|come to stay for somfi}nonths, Now
what shall we do to be employed and
improve ourselves? There are a great
many things we can do, perhaps one
of the best being literary pursuits.
How few of the young people of the
ipresent day realize the privilege they
_enjoy. We are surrounded by golden
|opoprtunities, i. e, if we have a lit
lerary tact, but how few seem to take
;fadvantag._e of the privileges they have!
Only occasionally we meet one who
11{110Ws knowledge is power. A great
many have good home with good books
‘and papers to read, but they do mnot
| seem to think that time is swiftly
.iipassing, and-they put off until tomor
row what can be done today instead
lof reading; perhaps they loaf around
iand sometimes keep bad company; s 0
. winter after winter passes, each one
| bringing them nearer to maturity and
!before they know it they are grown
'and then surrounded by a thousand dis
| advantages. .
l Young people, turn over a new leaf,
| and say I will'learn a little every day.
! If you don’t care to read learn a trade;
!study it, learn it, master it. But by
;!all means be sociable at all times and
wherever you go always let your words
be spoken in tones that are low, but
[ penetrating and sweet. Be polite by
! all means; it doesn’t cost you any
| thing and is worth a fortune to you.
‘Don't be sad, leok out over the smil
ing creation and freely partake of the
| spirit of gladness. If trouble or bothe
eration beset you laugh at it and off
it goes; trouble can’t bear to be
| laughed at. Let your thoughts wan
| der, let your imaginations gather
sweet flowers daily and place them
upon the altar of Igpe and you will
;find this a pretty good old world after
