Student charged

FAIRBURN (AP) A
ninth-grader at a private
school has been arrested
on charges that he took an
explosive device to school.
A teacher found the device
Monday under the bleachers
during field day activities at
Landmark Christian School,
Fairburn Police Capt. J.T.
Rogers said.
School Headmaster Matt
Skinner said school officials
alerted authorities and
about 600 students were
evacuated.
Rogers said the Fulton
County Sheriff’s Office bomb
technician who disassembled
the bomb said it had “mini
mum potential of causing
any type of serious damage.”
“If someone had personal
contact with the device, it
would injure them if it went
off,” Rogers said. “But we’re
not talking about taking out
a building.”
The student placed the
device as a joke, Skinner said.
“He indicated he was a
little surprised by the reac

Rappers find their
‘Stand Up’ attacked
NEW YORK (AP) With
some jurors nodding their
heads to the beat, lawyers
sparred over whether rap
pers Ludacris and Kanye
West stole the essence of
another song to create the
2003 hit “Stand Up.”
The jury in U.S. District
Court in Manhattan listened
to the song and “Straight
Like That” by a group, called
1.0. F. from East grange, NJ.
Two of the jurors nodded to
the beat of Ludacris’ song
but were still during the
little-known track.
Attorney Mel Sachs said
he will prove Atlanta rap
per Ludacris heard the song
before he made his break
through hit, even though
“Straight Like That” never
made it beyond some air
time on college radio after it
was released in September.
