Wellborn Road and the third
phases of Moody road and
Lake Joy Road.

taken for the Lake Joy,
Wellborn and Moody road
projects.
“We need some legal help
in acquiring right of way,”
explained County Director
of Operations Tommy
Stalnaker explained. “The
time clock’s ticking, People
are asking when these will
be done.”
Stalnaker said there are
two to three parcels on each,
but “until we get those, the
project is at a dead stop,” he
said. “We can’t let it (out for
bid) until the right of way is
acquired.”
Commissioner Jay Walker
also noted people are asking
when the projects will be
finished.

Building improvements
will continue in the 2007
budget with $1.7 million to
continue the renovations
at the County Annex, State
Court and Sheriffs Office
and to build out the “shelled
in” space at the County
Courthouse in Perry. Sanders
said about $5 million was cut
from the construction of the
courthouse to build it within
budget and some areas were
only shelled in, to do so.
The new judges chambers
as well as finishing the third
courtroom and jury room are
needed now, because of the
for the new judge authorized
for Superior Court, Sanders
said. These projects will be
completed within the fiscal
year.
Some of the road projects
in the 2007 budget include
$200,00 for straightening
White Road and Thompson
Road in the north end of
the county, $150,000 for the
Osigian Drive extension to
U.S 41, $134,000 for the
paving of Terrell Road and
$50,000 for additional land
scaping along Houston Lake
Road. Sanders said traffic
signals at $60,000 each are
planned the intersections of
Langston and Lake Joy roads
and at Cohen Walker Drive
and Houston Lake Road.
Nineteen new patrol cars
will be purchased for the
Sheriffs Office at a cost of
$410,000, with five being
paid for courtesy of local
criminals - out of drug and
inmate funds to the tune
of SIOB,OOO. Inmate funds
will also be used to enhance
the video recorder and cam
era system at the Houston
County Detention Facility
budgeted at $67,000.

that the homes would be for
all ages, from young families
to retirees,

Group hopes to work with
local builders who would
build the houses for sections
within the residential area.
The development will be
named after family that cur
rently owns the land.
The acreage that the late
Cohen Walker and the late
Charles P Gray bought in
1950 was well outside the
city limits at the time, and

roads,” said Stalnaker.
Walker asked that an
incentive be put in the con
tracts for finishing early.
In other business, the com
missioners:

annexations by the city of
Perry for two tracts for two
different planned use devel
opments so long as there
were no changes in plant
layout. The city of Perry is
slated to take action on both
at its next meeting.

crops. Then Interstate 75
came through dividing the
land, and starting a new
pattern of growth for the
small town of Perry.
The land was inherited by
Gray’s grandchildren, and
Walker’s children, Larry,
Charlie and David Walker,
and their sister, Lynda
Walker Kelley. According to
Larry Walker, the portion
that is up for sale now has
been used to grow pines for
timber for the last 15 years.
Larry Walker spoke at the
Boulevard, west of the inter
state, zoned C-2, R-AG, and
R-2 (single family residen
tial) to Perry Planned Use
Development that has both
commercial and residential
zonings. The project totals
117.27 acres and includes
407 lots of various sizes.
The other request is for
40.3 acres on U.S 41 North
from R-AG to Perry PUD.
The total development is
46.11 acres with the remain
ing 5.81 acres already in the
city and zoned Residential
Mobile Homes. The residen
tial subdivisions will have
81 lots.
