BRAVES CORNER
Braves 5, Yankees 2
NEW YORK (AP) - Horacio
Ramirez was pumped up for his
first career appearance against
the New York Yankees and the
Atlanta Braves couldn't have
been more pleased.
Ramirez won for the first time
in three weeks, equaling his sea
son-high in innings. He threw 111
pitches with three strikeouts and
one walk.
Ramirez (3-2) gave up one run,
walked one and struck out two.
It was only the second start for
Ramirez since he was struck on
the side of the head by a line drive
hit by Lance Berkman on June 11
at Houston.
Atlanta had a 1-0 lead after six
innings, with Ramirez hooked up
in a pitchers’ duel with Yankees
starter Jaret Wright.
Jeff Francoeur drove in runs
with singles in the second and
eighth innings and Adam Laßoche
had a solo homer in the seventh
for the Braves, who are 5-20 in
June.
Wright (4-5) allowed five hits
over six innings, walked two
and struck out four. He gave up
the run in the second when the
Braves got two of the five hits.
Andruw Jones doubled down
the left field line to start the
Atlanta second, moved to third
on an infield out and scored when
Francoeur punched an opposite
field single to right through a
drawn-in infield.

Holland, Gone load Nationals past tigers
By MATTHEW BROWN
HHJ Sports Writer
Jason Holland and Kyle
Gore each ripped run-scor
ing doubles in the fifth
inning Tuesday helping the
Nationals break open a tight
contest with the Tigers in
Middle Georgia Baseball
League play.
The Nationals maintained
a solid lead in the MGBL
standings by beating the
third-place Tigers 6-2 at the
Bibb County Sports Complex
in Macon.
With a slim 2-1 lead through
four innings, the Nationals
scored four times in the top
of the fifth off Tigers start
ing pitcher Scott Simpson.
For the first time since tak
ing the lead in the second
inning, the Nationals’ leadoff
batter reached base as Travis
Ward singled and stole sec
ond base.
Richard James poked the
baseball to the opposite field,
and not only did he advance
Ward another base he gave
his team another baserunner.
Derrick Bowen, the leadoff
batter of the lineup, ground
ed out to the right side for
the RBI.
With one out, Jason Holland
drilled the ball just fair down
the left field line scoring
another Nationals run.
