Sheriff’s office raised more than $10K in annual poker run for children’s charities
The Barrow County Sheriff's Office raised
more than $10,000 for local children's chari
ties during its 11th annual poker run, which
was held last weekend.
“We had a great year and raised more money
this year than in years past,” said Sheriff Jud
Smith, who called the Sept. 17 event a huge
success, having a total of 49 motorcycles and
67 participants, “who enjoyed cool weather,
great door prizes, and just getting together to
support awesome programs.”
The yearly motorcycle ride follows a wind
ing course through the mountains of North
Georgia and ends at Lake Hartwell for a water
side picnic.
All of the money raised from the event will
go to benefit Barrow County youth by fund
ing local charities, such as the sheriff’s office
P.L.A.Y. summer camp program, the sheriff's
office Explorer Program, the Boys and Girls
Club, Christmas with a Cop, Peace Place and
The Tree House.
“We also donate to several other benevolence
programs throughout the year,” said Smith.
“We are especially proud of the fact that
our entire Crime Prevention Unit organizes
this and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office
Explorer Unit help from day one and all of
them were with us Saturday helping to set

SHERIFF’S OFFICE ARREST REPORTS
Man arrested after allegedly pointing gun at girlfriend while she held their infant
Barrow County
Sheriff’s deputies
arrested a 39-year-
old Winder man
after he allegedly
made death threats
toward the mother
of his infant child
while pointing a
loaded gun at her
last week.
Kevin ‘Todd'
Sewell, of 1135
Clacktown Road, is charged
with battery, two counts
pointing or aiming gun or
pistol at another, terroristic
threats and acts, 2 nd degree
criminal damage to proper
ty, possession of firearm or
knife during commission of
a crime or attempt to com
mit certain felonies and false
imprisonment.
A sheriff’s deputy reported
to the residence at about 11
p.m. on Sept. 15 after receiv
ing a call about a domestic
report from a witness at the
residence.
According to the victim's
written statement, Sewell
allegedly got upset and hit
her, while yelling obsceni
ties at her. When
she picked up
her baby and
attempted to
leave, Sewell
allegedly got
in his truck and
spun the tires
in the yard and
then got a black
bag out of his
van that she
knew contained
a handgun.
The victim said Sewell
pointed the gun at her and
was yelling. When she turned
her back to him and walked
away, he allegedly told her
he would kill her if she tried
to leave. She said she wanted
to leave, but his threats hin
dered her from doing so.
She said she told him to stop
because she was holding the
baby while he was pointing
the gun at her.
At one point, Sewell alleg
edly fired the gun outside
toward some dogs.
After spending an hour or
more outside, while Sewell
apologized, he finally went
to sleep with no more vio
lence, the victim said. The
woman said there have been
than five physical domes
tic incidents between she
and Sewell and this is the
first incident that has been
reported. According to the
report, alcohol or drugs were
not involved.
