Red Sox cruise in Rosenberg Series opener
By MATTHEW BROWN
HDJ Sports Writer
The No. 2-seed Red
Sox showed no mercy on
the short-handed Angels
Wednesday as the Rosenberg
Series kicked off at Peach
County High School. David
Bland threw eight no-hit
innings out of his nine
complete, and the Red Sox
cruised to a 20-2 win.
The Rosenberg Series is
the name of the 2006 play
offs for the Middle Georgia
Baseball League. The double
elimination format contin

at the end of the weekend
in games held at both Peach
County High and the Bibb
County Sports Complex in
Macon.
Bland, a left-hander from
Cochran, gave up both
Angels runs on three hits
and a walk in the top of
the first inning. After that,
the only Angels to get on
base were via two errors and
three walks. Bland had six
strikeouts.
The Angels had just eight
players when the game
started, which limited them

But the Angels seemed to

The Red Sox went on to
score 16 runs over a five
inning stretch.
In the bottom of the sec

aggressive baserunning to
get four runs. Ty Whitaker
drew the second walk of the
inning after being down 0-2
with no outs.
There was a double steal,
and Jeremy Waldrep singled
to right for the first run.
Nick Cherney beat out an
infield hit, which tied the
game 2-2.
The Red Sox pulled off
another double steal to take
the lead, then Chris Dunn
singled to center for an RBI.
In the third, the Red Sox
added four more as Keith
Barker hustled to turn a
bad-hop single into a lead
off double. Kevin Jackson
