Warner Robins to
host policy forum
Special to the Journal
ATLANTA - Earlier
this summer the Georgia
Partnership for Excellence in
Education and the Georgia
School Boards Association
presented 11 education pol
icy forums across the state
for local school board and
state legislative candidates.
More than 200 people
attended the half-day tutori
als. As a result of that suc
cess, the two organizations
will provide two additional
opportunities.
The first will be presented
Sept. 13 at Middle Georgia
Technical College in Warner
Robins followed by one Sept.
14 at Atlanta Technical
College. Both meetings
will begin at 12:30 p.m. and
end at approximately 4:45

works to ensure literacy
Special to the Journal
Did you know that Friday
is International Literacy
Day?
Currently, the world is in
year three of what was pro
claimed the Literacy Decade
by the United Nations in
2003.
Today, although there are
almost 4 billion literate peo
ple in the world, another
860 million people remain
illiterate.
Approximately two-thirds
of those are women.
Perhaps the greatest
tragedy is, according to a
release, that 100 million of
the world’s children have no
access to schools or educa
tion.
“Literacy for all continues
to be an elusive goal and
ever-moving target. One of
the major obstacles to world
literacy is a lack of resourc
tf
es.
To that end, Rotary
International asks each of
its clubs to sponsor a com
munity literacy program.
