And speaking of AAUW,
their “ginormous” (once
again, that is grandkideese
combining gigantic and enor
mous) book sale is coming
the last weekend of October
in the old Houston Mall.
I Gripes:
I I spend a great deal of my
time with womdn my age on
the golf course, at the the
atre, at book club meetings,
on campus, in restaurants
ind at the swimming pool.
We all have the same gripes,
and they requested that I
serve as their “venter.”
’ Cell phones: Gripe one,
sye detest listening to other
people’s problems in public
places. Gripe two, we find
it offensive when the person
with whom we are talking
answers his/her cell phone
light in the middle of our
Conversation! In fact, in our
book that ranks right up
there with improper use of
call waiting!

Grocery stores: Why do
the stores never have enough
clerks checking people out!
Traffic lights: They’re not
where we think they should
be located, and those that
are in the wrong places are
way too long!
Traffic: Why is it Georgia
drivers think they can plant
themselves in the left lane
on highways and interstates
and grow there while oth
ers endanger their lives
passing them on the right?
Construction: Who is buying
all of these houses ranging
from teeny tiny to ginor
mous, and why does who
ever makes construction site
decisions think every tree
needs to be cut down and
every grassy field plowed up
and something built there?
Good news:
My son, his wife, their
three children, their dog and
their cat have moved out! I
am in the process of reclaim
ing my own house. My cat,
Bitsy, just can’t wipe the
grin off her face. She was
tired of sharing her favor
ite nooks and crannies with
Oreo the six-toed cat from
Attica, Ind.
Of course, they’ve left
some things behind which
eventually they’ll come pick
up and take with them.
But the oddest thing I’ve
found is 12 pair of shoes,
all sizes, which I have hid
den in the bottom of the
coat closet. My question is
this? Are they going to work
and school barefoot, or do
they merely have more shoes
than they actually need?
Till next week: “What you
sometimes mistake for a per
son who takes criticism well
is simply a person who is
convinced that you’re dead
wrong and not worth cor
recting.” Marilyn Van Sant
