Pilot Club project a ‘Lifesaver’
By KAY LI GUT HER
Journal Staff Writer
The Pilot Clubs of Perry
and Warner Robins have
been offering Project
Lifesaver since 2000.
Project Lifesaver provides,
for a S3OO cost, a wristband
tracking device for seniors,
children and others who
might wander off.
Evelyn McCain of the
Warner Robins Pilot Club
said the devices are available
for people with Alzheimer’s
disease, autism, traumatic
brain damage and other
brain disorders.
“We work very closely
with the police,” McCain
said. “We work through
the Sheriffs Office because
they can go anywhere in the
county and the state.”
In the six years, McCain
said, the Pilot Club has
helped place 154 units. “We
don’t have that many active
now,” she noted, as some
buyers have passed away,
"We've never
responded to a
call and not found
the patient."

Mud flap
Candidates get down, dirty
Perdue for governor.
After Thursday’s debate,
however, it wasn’t all that
clear who was running
against who, what with all
the mud.
At times it even seemed
like Taylor was running
against Larry O’Neal
and at one point Taylor
even asked if Perdue
was running against
him or his father.
Taylor brought up
O’Neal’s name almost
much as Perdue’s as
he kept referring to

lost the units.
When the program
began in 2000, however,
McCain said, there were
1,600 Alzheimer’s patients
in Houston County.
Nationwide, there has been
a 50 percent increase since
then, she said.
Houston County Sheriffs
Capt. Alan Everidge said
the average locate time is
about 45 minutes. “We’ve

related or not to the matter.
Perdue in response said
the “Big Guy has morphed
into Pinocchio, and
Pinocchio has morphed into
a robot,” as he said Taylor

He said the Houston
County Sheriffs Office
was one of the first in the
state and the first agency
in Middle Georgia to use
Project Lifesaver.
“It’s a lifesaving device,”
he said of the transmitter.

of being his (Taylor’s)

Everidge recommended

He said there is a sls a

which “we come out and
check the device, check the
batteries, to make sure it
works.”
He said each patient’s

“We have not heard back
on the property purchases,”
explained Executive Director

The prospective pur

“Did we give him a no

Law said he had discussed
buying part of the 3.8 acres
out there at $90,000 an acre.
“Given the number of lots
he’s purchased from us, I
told him I didn’t feel it would
be accepted,” said Law.
Some of the off lots in the
same area sold for $112,000,
Snellgrove said. “If I’m not
