PANTHERS
From page iB
showed some spunk after the
Trojans’ subsequent kick off.
Facing third and 10, Perry
quarterback Casey Hayward
rolled out to his right, spun
and threw across the field to
a wide-open Kenny Davis on
a backdoor screen.
Davis raced 60 yards down
the sideline for Perry’s only
first-half score.
Bill Freeman kicked the
extra point, but the Panthers
trailed 22-7.
That score didn’t last long,
much to Perry’s detriment.
Peach County’s Umuh took
the short kickoff at his 35
and returned it to midfield.
Mareo Howard finished the
Trojans’ attack, bursting up
the middle for 14 yards and a
touchdown.
The Trojans scored on
their first four possessions of
the game before the Panther
defense finally stopped them
late in the first half.
In the second half, while
Perry flailed around in vain
attempts to get back into the
game, Peach County added
touchdowns in its only pos
session of the third quarter
and in its first possession of
the fourth.
Another touchdown toss
from Ellis to Umuh, this one
for 15 yards, made the score
36-7.
Then in the fourth,
Duranzo Brown took a short
pass in the flat from Ellis,
squeezed out of what looked
like a sure tackle and ran 79
yards for his only touchdown
and Ellis’ third touchdown
pass of the game.
Perry’s Hayward made the
score 43-14 when he faked a
hand off that left the Peach
County defense going south
while he headed north for the
end zone. Freeman’s kick for
the extra point was the final
tally of the game.
Hayward’s jaunt came with
only one minute and four sec
onds left in the game. When
the Trojans got the ball back
after a failed onside kick,
they ran out the clock.
Perry fell to 4-3, 2-1 in
Region 48-AAA. Peach
County remains unbeaten in
48-AAA at 3-0, 6-1 overall.
