In regulation, their big
gest lead was 12, a 48-36
score in the third quarter.
Warner Robins trailed 56-
52 going into the fourth,
then proceeded to sink 15
shots from the foul line in
eight game minutes.
Perry led 64-58 as Jared
Fluellen cut to the basket to
cash in a pass from Smith
and Hayward made a bullet
pass inside for a Panther
slam. Smith also tapped in
an offensive rebound and
Akeen Felder scored off a
turnover. Perry executed one
play after another, includ
ing Hayward’s inbound to
Askew off a timeout, but
the Demons were hitting
one foul shot after another
around a 3-point shot from
Miller.
But the numbers game
caught up to Warner Robins
in overtime, and Hayward’s
reverse lay-in finished off
the Panther victory.
The first points of the
second half didn’t come
until 5:15 when White put
on a strong move in the
post. Maine again got an
early foul and sat on the
bench. Demonette coach
Tom Mobley put her back
Perry attempted to wear
down the short-handed
foe early with a full-court
press. Sometimes it worked,
but other times it didn’t as
Kenny Willis got an assist
off a touch pass to Miller on
the break. Hayward, part of
the second unit Hardy put
in play, had two steals with
one basket for himself and
another to Jared Fluellen.
Later in the quarter,
Hayward blocked a shot
outside, which led to two
points for Walker. Smith,
at the buzzer, canned a 3-
pointer for a 23-18 Perry
lead.
With only five seconds left
in the period, Hayward’s
court sense came into play
as he let the ball roll to half
court before picking it up
and dishing off to Smith.
The second quarter saw
more from Hayward as he
dribbled end to end and
used a spin move at the
basket to score. Miller, at
2:25 until halftime, coun
tered with a pro-range 3-
pointer. Warner Robins cut
in with two minutes to go,
and the senior scored and
blocked a Perry shot. The
quarter ended at 39-21.
Billings hit two 3’s early
in the fourth, and Maine
got her second block plus a
steal and stick-back score.
the turnovers down in the
second, and was able to get
as close as one, 30-29.
Hayward, a quarter
back in football, had two
more assists down the
stretch with a shuffle
pass to Walker and a fast
break feed to Smith. Jared
Fluellen got the Panthers
a second-chance score after
a missed foul shot, and the
home team took a 38-31
lead into the break.
Perry’s big lead in the
third quarter came in part
to dominance on the offen
sive glass. Akeen Felder
and Smith paced their team
to a 50-39 edge before the
Demons staged another
gradual comeback.
At 3:30 of the third, Miller
sank a 3-pointer and later
scored off a takeaway. In
the last two minutes, the
Demons again hit from long
range and Kenny Fluellen
hit two open inside looks to
make it 54-52.
The Panthers had the
final say, though, on another
Hayward assist to Smith.

games in the 2005-06 season
after suffering a torn ACL,
a torn MCL and a fractured
knee cap during a summer
camp last year. Janay had an
operation in August of 2005,
saw some action in December
for the Lady Eagles but didn’t
come back full speed until the
postseason earlier this year.
But now, coach Wilson said
the knee is stronger than
ever, allowing Janay to take
part on the Northside cross
country and volleyball teams
this fall.
“Some don’t bounce back
as quickly as others,” she
said. “So for her to have an
opportunity for a scholarship
is quite an achievement.”
“I was real determined to
help my team,” said Janay,
whose team did reach the
Class AAAA Elite Eight for
the second year in a row. “It
made me stronger mentally.”
By being the mother of the
future Lady Bee, Cassandra
Wilson had more reasons
than a typical high school
coach to be interested in
what SCAD had to offer her
recruit.
“I do like it,” she said.
“Savannah is a great city.
Her goal is to be an interior
designer, so she gets the best
of both worlds.”
SCAD is an NALA athlet

team is in a rebuilding phase,
