2 killed, 1 wounded
In Clayton shootout
FOREST PARK (AP) - A
gunman fired on a car early
Friday, killing the pregnant
driver and a male passenger
and wounding another pas
senger in the back seat.
A witness told police the
shooter, who was driving a
green car, cut off a white
Ford driven by a woman who
was pregnant just after 2
a.m. The shooter fired on the
woman and then the man in
the front seat, killing both,
authorities said.
A woman in the back seat
was shot in the hand but
managed to run and hide
in a nearby overgrown area
and then called 911, Clayton
County Police Sgt. Bruce
Parks said. The shooting may
have involved a stalking inci
dent that began at a nearby
adult entertainment club,
Parks said. Investigators
have a “good lead” on a sus
pect, Parks said.
The names of the two who
were killed were not imme
diately released but Parks
said they were in their late
teens or early 20s.
Police: Officer
acted properly
JONESBORO (AP) - A
school resource officer acted
properly when she used a
Taser on an 11-year-old boy,
police said.
Angela Jackson, a resource
officer at Jonesboro Middle
School, used a Taser on the
sixth-grader Wednesday
after the boy, who weighs
200 pounds, refused to obey
orders to stop attacking a
girl, also 11.
“She did an excellent job,”
Jonesboro interim police
Chief Wayne Rowland said
Thursday of Jackson.
The boy was fighting a
female student who police
said weighed 85 pounds
when Jackson ordered him
to stop. The boy continued
hitting the girl, police said.
Jackson then yelled she was
going to fire her Taser at
him, police said.

Report: Lawmakers
owe back taxes
ATLANTA (AP) - State
Rep. David Ralston of Blue
Ridge owes the Internal
Revenue Service $347,318 in
income taxes, penalties and
interest from as far back
as 1996, according to court
records.
Ralston, a Republican who
ran for state attorney gen
eral in 1998, had a tax lien

Court in Fannin County in
April, The Atlanta Journal-
Constitution said on its Web
site Thursday night.
The newspaper said a copy
of the IRS lien was mailed
anonymously, along with
a copy of the newspaper’s
article about Ralston paying
$36,880 in back state income
taxes in 2003- The newspa
per also reported that as of
July, Rep. Lester G. Jackson,
D-Savannah, owed $15,265

E-mail warns
students of meth
ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia
college students will soon be
getting an e-mail warning
them of the dangers of meth
amphetamine.
The e-mail - which fea
tures graphic photos of meth
users with oozing sores and
rotting teeth - will be sent to
the 260,000 Georgia college
students at the state’s 35
schools in the coming days.
The initiative was announced
at a state Capitol news con
ference on Thursday by U.S.
Attorney David Nahmias
and other state and federal
law enforcement and educa
tion officials.
“It’s an ugly, painful way
to go,” the e-mail says.
Law enforcement offi
cials stressed that meth is
a highly addictive drug and
students who might use it
to stay awake to study for
exams or heighten sexual
performance are in for a
long recovery program down
the road.
