First graders from Susie Hall’s Matt Arthur Elementary School class, according to a
release, recently learned about the pilgrims and the games their children played. To
that end, the children even v/ent outside and put into practice those games. Also, Earl
Bowman, Hall’s father, and his friend Rink Kirkpatrick came and taught the first grades
how to play marbles. They are members of the GRIT marble club in Cochran. “What is
really neat,” Hall said, “is that my dad, Earl and Mr. Rink were friends in first grade and
they played marbles together then.”

Also, modernization of the
lighting system and upgrad
ing electrical equipment are
preliminary steps to upgrad
ing and moving runways
to comply with new FAA
regulations as well as build
ing an additional hangar on
the property; all of which
are included in the Perry-
Houston County Airport
Capital Improvements Plan,
which spans a total of six
years.
The Airport Authority is
currently working with and
applying for Federal Aviation
Authority non-primary
entitlement, One Georgia
Edge Funds and SPLOST.
The One Georgia
Authority, created by the
governor and the legisla

state’s tobacco settlement to
assist the state’s most eco

Approximately $1.6 billion
is anticipated to be avail
able over the 25-year term of
the settlement. One Georgia
investments will be targeted
towards rural communities.
“Air transportation is the
preferred choice for business
and industry decision makers
in the 21st century economy.
Our economic development
efforts will benefit greatly
from accessible rural air
ports throughout Georgia,”
said Gov. Sonny Perdue.
“Rural airports also con
nect Georgians to metro
areas, enhance tourism
opportunities, expedite
access to emergency health
care services and support
the transportation needs
of entrepreneurs and small
business owners.”
At completion in 2009
the improvements will
cost a total of $7,640,000.
The Federal share will be
$3,173,000 and state share
will be $2,033,500.

Members of the 78th
Security Forces responded
to the incident. Jozens said
there was no fuel spill or fire
from the incidents as the
pump closed upon impact, as
it was supposed to. The gas
station is at the intersection
of 10th Street and Robins
Parkway on the south end
of the base near the Russell
Gate.
Jozens also noted the help
from bystanders with the
accident scene. “Several peo

personnel arrived. Others
helped control the accident
scene until security forces
arrived.”

Her two-year term begins
Jan. 1, 2007. The position
will come up for election
in 2008 for the term that
begins in Jan. 1, 2009.
Lumsden said there will
be some working around
the criminal court calendar,
because she is coming in
from the DA’s office.
“Obviously I’ll not be
hearing any criminal case
that was in the DA’s office
when I was there,” she said.
“But I’m sure they will have
plenty of work for me.”
In the meantime,
Lumsden will be inter
viewing, talking with
people to fill the two staff
positions - secretary and
court reporter - she gets
as judge.
The District Attorney’s
office will have to replace
her and hire another
assistant district attorney
that comes with the new
judgeship. Lumsden said
District Attorney Kelly
Burke has already been
conducting interviews for
the new ADA.
Burke had high praise
for his chief assistant,
the new judge. “People
have asked me over the
last few months what I
wanted in a judge, and I
always reply that I want
