becomes operational
Drivers should be aware the new
traffic signal at the intersection of
U.S. 41 (Perry Road) and Perimeter
Road, is in full operation, effective
today. The flashing lights which have
been in operation for the last week
will now be stop and go lights. Be
prepared to come to a complete stop
on U.S. 41.

Douglas honored by
professional agents
Jennie Gayle Douglas was
recently named the 2007 Company
Representative of the year by the
Professional Insurance Agents of
Georgia . She received the honor at
the organization's annual convention
in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
The daughter of Currey and Pat
Gayle of Marietta, and the grand
daughter to Joe and Connette Gayle
of Perry, Douglas ia a graduate of
the University of Georgia School of
Insurance and Risk Management.
She is an area sales director with
Builder’s Insurance Group, the larg
est writer of workers compensation
in Georgia. She lives in Thomasville
with her husband, Michael Douglas,
and son, James, and is expecting
her second child in January.

Student population on the
rise as 3 more schools open

Houston County’s public schools
opened for the 2007-08 term on Monday.
According to Beth McLaughlin, projec
tions are that approximately 25,800 stu
dents will be enrolled for this year, about
1,700 more than last year.
Three new schools opened on Monday:
Lake Joy Primary off Lake Joy Road,
Hilltop Elementary off Moody Road and
Mossy Creek Middle School on Danny
Carpenter Drive off Sandefur Road.
There are also more than 300 new
teachers. There has been a change since
last year in elementary school hours. All
elementary schools are opening their
doors at 7:45 am., with classes starting
at 8:30 a.m. and the school day ending at
3:30 p.m.
Middle Schools hours are 7:30 a.m. to
2:45 p.m.
High school hours are 7:45 a.m. to 2:45
p.m.

The Houston County
Board of Elections is mail
ing out new voter registra
tion cards.
The cards will be sent
out to let voters know of
polling place changes fol
lowing the consolidation
of some precincts, moving
others and the creation
of a new voting precinct
at Mossy Creek Middle
School. The changes are
in part due to requests
from the School Board
to move some of the pre
cincts out of the elemen
tary schools, explained

molestation

Perry Police arrested an
active duty Air Force staff
sergeant for child molestation
late Thursday
night.
Nathan
Todd Wogan,
25, is being
held with
out bond in
the Houston
County Jail
on charges of
child molesta
tion and sex
ual battery of
a 13-year-old. He also has a
hold from the United States
Air Force.
Perry Public Safety Director
George Potter said Thursday
afternoon at about 5:30 p.m.
a citizen flagged down an offi
cer about suspicious activity at
Calhoun Park.
“The citizen told Officer (Bill)
Hathcock he saw a man go into
the woods with an adolescent
girl,” Potter said.
Hathcock radioed for assis
tance and officers went into
the woods and found them.
The two were then taken back
to the girl’s mother’s home.
The mother said she’d given
permission to the man, a fam
ily friend, to take the girl into

WRPD seek
suspects in
2 robberies

Warner Robins Police are
looking for suspects at two
armed robberies over the week
end.
On Saturday at 10:21 a.m.,
officers responded to the 117

ing an armed robbery. Officers
learned the suspect entered the
business brandishing a weapon
and took a customer’s purse
before turning on the clerk.
The suspect reportedly
demanded she hand over a bag
containing change. She com
plied and the suspect fled the
business on foot in an unknown
direction.
The suspect is described as
a black male 20-35 years of
age, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 with
a thin build. He was wearing
a blue short-sleeved, button-up
