cleanup and investiga
tion. The deputies drew
their weapons as soon as
they realized Adcock was
not going to stop, with one
actually firing after he was
hit, Ashford said in a press
release.
The deputies reported
Adcock stated he was not
going to stop, swerved
intentionally towards them,
striking both officers with
his car, and then immediate
ly accelerated while depu
ties pursued. The two depu
ties hit - Patrick Alexander

active school zone going at
least 50 to 60 miles per
hour, Ashford said. A school
crossing guard, Sigrid
Wharam, saw Adcock rap
idly approaching and was
able to quickly snatch a
child from the crosswalk
and bring him to safety
“Wharam was a real hero
for her actions that day.”
Ashford said. “She is the
epitome of the outstanding
school crossing guard; we
are lucky to have someone
like her protecting our chil
dren.”
During the following
chase Adcock also almost
struck a Warner Robins
Police officer. Adcock’s
other charges stem from
his actions during the pur

The vehicle’s tag num
ber was quickly traced to
Adcock, and he was found
barricaded in,his home later
that night.
He was arrested without
incident about 10 p.m. in a
raid by the Houston County
Sheriff’s Response Team.
The traffic charges
included failure to obey
person directing traffic,
passing on hilUcurve, flee
ing or attempting to elude,
weaving/failure to main
tain lane, obstruction of an
officer, leaving scene of an
accident, too fast for con
ditions, reckless driving,
driving with a suspended
or revoked license, passing
within 200 feet of oncoming
traffic, improper turn, driv
ing in median/emergency
lane and failure to use turn
signal.

charged with sexual assault

A corrections officer at
Dooly State Prison faces
numerous charges from
a Tuesday incident in the
south end of the county.
James Dwane Morris, 30
of North County Line Road,
Unadilla in south Houston
County, was arrested around
7 p.m. Tuesday at his resi
dence on County Line Road
by sheriffs deputies and
charged with rape, aggra
vated sodomy, false impris
onment, aggravated assault,
battery, sexual assault, cru
elty to children, criminal
damage to property, inter
ference with a call for help
and terroristic threats. All
charges are family violence
charges.
The incident took place
at the residence where the
victim is Morris’ live-in girl
friend. Morris is accused
of sexually assaulting the
female and holding her
against her will for several
hours while a small child
was present. Morris also is
accused of damaging the
residence.
According to the incident
report, deputies were dis
patched about 6:52 p.m.
Tuesday, and found the vic
tim sitting in a chair by the
side of the road at a neigh
bor’s house, with her moth
er and daughter. The vie

bedroom.
According to the incident
report, the deputy then
walked up to the house and
opened the door, attempting
to make contact with Morris.
The residence was extremely
dirty,” the deputy observed,
“and furniture, clothing and
miscellaneous items were
scattered throughout the
house.”
Due to the nature of the
call, the deputy backed up to
the road to wait for backup.
He was also advised Morris
had two handguns, “was
acting crazy” and said, “he
would not go to jail.”
The deputy advised dis
patch and put on his tactical
gear. The second deputy to
arrive also put on his tactical
gear and they approached
the house.
