Matthew Hulbert was recently sworn in as an attorney, with Superior Court Judge George Nunn officiating. Hulbert,
who is a graduate of the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law, will practice law with the Perry firm of

Houston designated a qualifier for natural disaster benefits

Houston County is one of a num
ber of counties the U.S. Department
of Agriculture designated as qualifying
for natural disaster benefits because
it is contiguous to one 10 counties
in Georgia the department has desig
nated as primary natural disaster areas
because of losses caused by drought
that occurred on Jan. 1 and continu
ing. The 10 counties are: Baldwin,
Dooly, Jones, Muscogee, Talbot,
Chattahoochee, Harris, Marion, Putnam
and Washington.

ral disaster areas Oct. 18 making all eli
gible for low interest emergency loans
from USDA’s Farm Service Agency,

met. Farmers have eight months from
the date of the declaration to apply for

Retired firefighter wins $235,802

A retired Byron firefight
er has won a hot Georgia
Lottery prize. Gaiy Sanford
matched all five winning
numbers in the Nov. 1
Fantasy 5 drawing and was
one of two players to win
$235,602.
“I watched the drawing
on TV and I haven’t been
to sleep since,” Sanford
said.
Winning numbers for the
drawing were: 7-14-26-29-
32. Sanford purchased his
Quik Pik combination at
Byron Chevron #0420, 302
Highway 49 N., Byron. The
second top prize ticket was
purchased in Grovetown.
Sanford, who will turn
62 on Nov. 29, plans to use
some of his prize to pay
bills.
“Other than that, I don’t
have a clue,” he said.
