WF B-Team finishes perfect at 13-0
Special to the Journal
The Lady Hornets 2007
B-Team finished the season
undefeated with a perfect
13-0 record.
The team’s motto during
summer workouts was hard
work and TEAM, according
to a release. “We challenged
the girls to work hard and
get better with each game
and they exceeded that goal,”
said Coach David Whiddon.
The team played their
best two games of the sea
son Oct. 6 in Dublin against
a tough Trinity squad and in
a double header. After tak
ing game one 10-3 with two
home runs and 9 hits,, game
two was a pitching battle,
tied at 1-1 after regulation.
Trinity had the bases load
ed with no outs in the bot
tom of the last inning but
both Lady Hornet coaches
said they felt like “we would
take our first loss of the sea
son in our last game.”
The players had other
plans, however, and made
some “outstanding defensive
plays mixed with a timely
strikeout” to send the game
into a tie breaker.
In extra innings Westfield
started with a runner on sec
ond and after the first batter
drew a walk the next batter
stepped up and punched a
bunt past a charging third
baseman for a hit and loaded
the bases. The next batter hit
a shot to left center scoring
two runs to make it 3-1. The
Hornets later scored three
insurance runs to give them
a 6-1 lead. After a three-up
and-three-down bottom the
celebration was on.
Each player on the team
contributed in a big way in
the wins, the release adds.
Some had outstanding
defensive plays while others
had big hits when we needed
them. Coach Mike Grier told
the team, “They cracked the
door open and you kicked it
down.”
Both coaches agree they
have never seen a team with
better “team chemistry”.
Both praised the team for
supporting each other from
the beginning. Even when
the coaches were on one
of them hard, agreed the
coaches, the other players
were quick to pick that play
er up with some encouraging
words or a hug.
The team finished with
staggering numbers; 115
State winners
hits, 107 runs scored and
only allowing 16 runs scored

WHAT ARE
THE ADVANTAGES?
The major advantage of Lasek is
that the procedure avoids cutting a
flap, which contributes to the ma
jority of LASIK complications.
LASEK may also be beneficial to
patients who have either thin cor
neas or large eyeglass prescrip
tions, as improved corneal strength
is achieved by preserving addition
al corneal tissue, in comparison to
the LASIK procedure.
