Senior Center - it's all
about independence

Supporting independence
and self-sufficiency, is what
the Senior Center in Perry
is all about. Engaging senior
citizens in numerous activi
ties daily and exercising is
the major component of the
centers purpose. The center
is located at Rozar Park in
Perry.
According to Tammy
Baker, Senior Center man
ager about 14 to 18 seniors
come in every morning at 8
a.m. and stay until 3:30 p.m.
in the afternoon participat
ing in group activities such
as Bingo, arts and crafts,
dominoes, and exercising.
“They have all become
very close with each other
and look forward to being
around one another every
day,” Baker said.
The benefits for the seniors
that attend is much more

about them socializing with
friends, being able to volun
teer in programs, and just
having fun.
The seniors have an exer
cise regimen that they per
form to music a couple days
a week and before the end
of .exercising session every
one is up out of their chairs
dancing. The center has holi
day parties for the seniors,
as well as cookie and punch
socials throughout the year.
Katie M. Chambliss a
member at the Senior Center
said, “It’s more than just a
place to go, it’s fun. We exer
cise and we get to socialize
with people of our own age
group.”
Chambliss comes to the
center every day from Warner
Robins to be with her peers.

center. Last year the seniors
held a canned food drive and
made baskets to give to needy
families in the community.
“They really care about
what goes on around them,
and we try to get them
involved,” said Baker.
Senior programs are
funded in part through
