standings Thursday. The
Eagles improved to 4-1 in
the region with a 30-14 win
against Tift County High at
McConrtell-Talbert Stadium.
The Tift Blue Devils vis
ited Warner Robins with a
3-1 record in the region. The
other member of that former
three-way tie, Coffee County
High, lost to Northside in
Douglas on Oct. 10.
Senior Eagle quarterback
Joe Scott had by far his
busiest night of the season
throwing the football with 22
pass attempts. With 11 com
pletions, he had 152 yards.

WR girls, boys defend county titles
By MATTHEW BROWN

What better way for the
county’s cross country run
ners to prepare for the all
important region meets than
to engage in a little friendly
competition better known as
the County Cross Country
Championships.
The day, for the second
year in a row, belonged to
Warner Robins High School,
winners of both the boys and
girls team titles Tuesday at
Pearl Stephens Elementary
School. But uiilike last year,
David Erpelding’s runners
also swept the top spots indi
vidually.
Demon junior Jacob Grubb
(17:35) was eight seconds
faster than teammate and
defending county champion
Karl Burkhart (17:43). In
fact, Warner Robins High
had the first three runners
to make it to the finish line,
a point that Grubb was more
satisfied to see than his own
personal victory.
“The last half mile, I start
ed feeling it real bad,” said
Grubb after his third win of
the season, the others com
ing at the Bleckley County
2-mile and the pre-region
meet. “I just held on as hard
as I could. My legs felt heavy
and my arms started to hurt.
It was just, ‘Oh, gosh!’
“(Karl) isn’t too mad.
We’re just glad we won the
entire (thing).”

Eddy helps lead Warner Robins past Colquitt County

It was Cameron Eddy night
as the Warner Robins defender
blocked a punt for a safety, dived
oh a fumble in the end zone for
six points, and stripped a Packer
receiver of a reception late in the
third quarter.
His efforts helped Warner Robins
to a 39-14 win against Colquitt
County Friday night at McConnell-
Talbert Stadium.
The win kept the Demons in
the 1-AAAAA playoff hunt with a
3-2 region record and a 5-3 record
overall.
Colquitt remained winless in the
region at 0-5, 3-5 overall.
It’s unique to call a passing team
one dimensional but the Colquitt
County Packers passed first and
was the 159 yards put up
against Houston County
High on Sept. 26.
Scott’s totals through
the air compensated for
Tift County’s focus on con
taining senior Eagle run
ning back Xavier Bacon.
Though Bacon had his car
ries (20) and scored three
touchdowns, he netted just
69 yards,. leaving him less
than 40 from the 1,000-
yard mark. He did catch five
shuffles and screens for 23
more yards.
The Northside defense,
even with some missing
injured parts like linebacker
Eric Fields, shut down the
Tift County spread offense
to less than 200 yards total
(155). Defensive end Abry
Jones was a part of three
of the five sacks, and the
interceptions were divided
among K.J. Morton, Brian
Jones and Brison Williams.
And then there’s kicker
Devon Pike, who hasn’t
failed to place the football
between the posts in all eight
games. His three PAT kicks
make him 23-for-23, and
his three field goals bring

Clark’s extra point kick.
The second score was a Cameron
Eddy fumble recovery in the end
zone.
Warner Robins led 16-0 at that
point.
• The Packers drove 80 yards
behind seven consecutive passes
before they pounded it in on the
ground from one yard out to make
the score 23-7 with little more
than four minutes left.
Warner Robins attempted to
reply to the Colquitt score, but
a Demon fumble at the Colquitt
seven killed the drive.
Warner Robins’ defense shut
down the pass and the Demons’
Cameron Cody blocked the punt
and chased it through the end zone
for a safety, and Warner Robins led
25-7 at the half.
The Demons had survived two
first-half turnovers, an inter
ception and fumble, both killing
potential scoring drives.
Colquitt opened the second
half determined to make its pass
oriented attack work based on
Harrison to Quinn Roberson pass/
catch duo.
It’s hard to generate scores
when the Demons kicker keeps the
opposing offense deep in its own
territory, however. Five of Clark’s
six kickoffs ended in the end zone.
The Demons came out prepared
for Colquitt’s aerial assault and
grounded the Packers.
As in the first half, Warner
Robins scored on its first posses
sion of the second half. D. J. Butts
broke loose for 23 yards and a
touchdown. Clarks PAT gave the
Demons a 32-7 lead.

Three downs and two sacks later,
Colquitt punted again and for only
the second time in the game, the
Demons had to start in its own
territory.
That didn’t keep Warner Robins
from driving the necessary 53
yards for another third-quarter
touchdown.
Primus capped the drive with a
14-yard run for his second score of
the night and the Demons led 39-7
after Clark’s kick.
The fourth quarter opened with
a running clock, and Colquitt
scored again in the fourth quar
ter. Quarterback Tyler Brown hit
Quinn Roberson on a three-yard
corner route for the final touch
down of the game.
Warner Robins and Northside
face off next Friday at McConnell-
