BOY WHO SOUGHT FORTUNE
AT SEA IS NOW SUCCESS
NEW YORK, June 7— (P)—Wal--
ter H, Ramsden, “a poor boy wheo
went to sea for his fortune” and for
18 years rode the ships of the
Cunard line as assistant purser was
a passenger in a first class cabin of
the Cunarder Carinthia when she
sailed, And the fortune, once so fur
away, he admitted was by way of be
ing achieved at last, due to an op
portunity offered by an American
business man,
Last year when he was staff pur
ser of the Berengaria, Rameden was
offered the position of British man
ager at Liverpool of a great Ameri
can coal company by 8. A. Werthein
president of the company and a pas
senger of the Berengaria. Ramsden
accepted and during the winter ar
ranged for the shipment to the coun.
try of more than 50 freighters
weighted down with Weish coal. He
was returning from a week’s confor
cnce with his president, .
“After meeting so many American
business men, who have made for
tunes,” caid Ramsden, “I made up
my mind that if ever one of them
gave me a chance I'd take it and 1
might land too, I don’t mind saying
that I dined with Mr. Wertheim last
night and if that isn't the whole
ctory—=what else could poor boy who
goes to sea for his fortune ask for.
I'm satisfied.
