TheThalian Performance.
In spite of a hard rain, which
set in just in time to prevent
many from attending, who oth-
wise would have been present,
a large audience went out to
the Opera House last Friday
night to enjoy the entertaining
programme that the University
dramatic club had arranged for
the occasion. This was the
tenth annual performance, but
last Friday evening’s entertain
ment eclipsed all previous func
tions that the club has given.
The programme, which was a
new feature, proved a decided
success, and was received in a
manner that gave assurance of
of the audience’s appreciation.
A large number of Lucy Cobb
young ladies were there to grace
the occasion, and the “beauty
and chivalry of Athens turned
out in full force.” Everything
and everybody took on an air of
good humor. Dignified pro
fessors enjoyed tho jokes on
others of their kind and made
the students forget the zeros
they had received at their hand,
and that they were to receive
the next morning as one of tho
necessary consequences of the
evening’s pleasures.
Tho curtain was kept down
for about fifteen minutes hoping
that the rain would hold up.
About half-past eight the pro
gramme was begun and was
well filled.

Fditor Run and Black I
desire to communicate to tho
student-body tho fact that my
resignation as manager of base
ball lias been placed in the
hands of the Physical Director
of the University, and is to take
effect immediately.
It is a source of keen regret
to me that I should he compelled
at this late day to take such an
action, because it will he most
difficult for my successor to take
up tho work where it lias been
left oil', ami there is a possible
chance of delay which will for a
time disturb matters.. I do not
intend, however, to sever all
connection with tho manager
ship, as I will render all possible
aid in my power to my success
or, and use all my leisure
time in adding, if possible, to
the furtherance of the interests
of the team and those concerned

I have to discontinue my con

which I have most deeply ap

work I have done may have
brought little fruit, yet, under
the many difficulties that beset
us at the beginning of the sea
son, I have done tho best i could.
It is unfortunate that I am not
able to continue my work, be
cause of the fact that if my
plans as to the season do not
succeed my successor will re
ceive the blame that should be
attached to someone else.
My reason for resigning is
that I find my time too much
occupied to attend to my other
duties in a fair way, and it is
upon the wholesome advice of
those who can tell better than I
bow to act, that I have decided
upon the course I should adopt.
I trust that you will realize
