HERMAN JULIUS
The respect that the Jewish people in
the South have gamed in the estimation
of their fellow citizens (non-Jews) can
he traced to quite a number of factors,
of which the principal one is the per
sonality of the men that carry a leading
role in their respective communities.
In Columbus, Georgia, Herman Julius
—business man and civic leader—is an
excellent example of a man who, outside
of his exacting business requirements,
takes an interest in affairs of his com
munity, whether religious or civic. It can
be said that Mr. Julius specializes in
helping underprivileged humanity irre
spective of religion.
Mr. Julius is actively associated with
the American Red Cross, being chairman
of that organization in Columbus. As the
chairman of the Juvenile Court, the value
of Mr. Julius’ services for his community
is particularly enhanced. In these ca
pacities his personality, ability and ex
perience stands him in good need.
A leader in the Jewish community, Mr.
Julius more than fulfils his obligations to
his people as the president of Congrega
tion H’nai Israel. Of affairs of Jewish
history Mr. Julius is well versed. His
library is filled with Jewish books, both
modern and old, with which he is quite
familiar, being an inveterate reader of
Jewish literature.
Mr. Julius is a member of the firm,
J. and H. Julius, operating Acme Laun
dry, and is also president of White
Laundry, Inc., Columbus, Ga.

Zionist Region, the American Jewish Con
gress, etc. Two years ago Judge From-
berg was instrumental in establishing the
local chapter of A. Z. A. (the Senior
Order of the B’nai B’rith) and is now one
of its sponsors.
In November, 1931, he was elected
Judge of the City Court of Charleston,
which office he now holds. Judge From-
berg has become far famed for the hu
maneness with which he dispatches jus
tice. His court sits in a session every
day in the year except Sundays and he
handles more cases than any other court
in the State.
Judge Fromberg has frequently spoken
on contemporary Jewish topics in many
cities in the East and he never delivers
an address to a Jewish audience unless
he quotes Hebrew, being an ardent student
of Jewish history, literature and culture.
In 1920 the father of Judge Fromberg
retired from business and moved to New
York City, where he devoted himself to
the study of the Talmud. In 1930 his
parents moved to Palestine and are now
residing in Tel Aviv, the modern all-
Jew ish city.
