Correspondence between the Secretary
of the Society for the Suppression of
vice, and some Young Ladies.

Young Ladies,
(Peace he among you.)
I am directed by one of the Wor
shipful Governors of the Society for
the suppression of Vice, to intimate
to you, that he had the pain to wit
ness one of you wilfully and unne
cessarily profaning the Holy Sabbath,
at the hour of three yesterday, by
working at her needle, in the win
dow of your apartment, thereby
breaking the Commandants of God
Almighty, and setting an e\il exam
ple to others to do so likewise ; it
is one Commandant to keep holy the
Sabbath; it is another not to steal
—you think it sinful to steal,, and
v hy is it not sinful to break the sab
bath ? The first Commandment is
from God, as well as the last. Then
*■ go thy way and sin no more, and
thy sin shall be forgiven thee.” This
much from the Governor.
1 would now say a few words to
you from myself—“ God made man
upright, but he hath found out many
inventions;”—and “ God made man
alter his own image ;”but not to be
squeezed into the figure of a spider
or a wasp, as if the head and tail had
no connection with each other—.put

GENTLEMEN.
Great coats—Great coals are in
general worn of olive, olive brown,
or dark green superfiine cloth, or
superfine bath coating; single breast
ed, with three or four straps in the*
front ; cross flaps, and the pockets
mtside, under the latter ; a small
flap in the plaits, pointed with three
buttons ;—round cuffs ; the collar to
come up high in the neck, and pad-
tlcd; the fall-down collar only an
inch and a hall deep. The waist is
worn long, three inches below the
hip bone, and the skirts must reach
to the bottom of the calf.
Some fashionables have fur cuffs,
collar, and lappels to their great coats,
with a standing collar faced with fur
nside, so as to turn back, to form
a fall-down collar.—The leaders of
