lina. '
Our attention haa been directed to a printed com
munication from Bishop Davis of 8outh Carolina, in
which an appeal is made In behalf of the Diocesan
Theological Seminary of that State, established at Cam
den. The Bishop states that the Seminary buildings
and a large portion of the library have been destroyed
by fire, and that the permanent fond, amounting to
nearly fifty thousand dollars, waa all lost during the
progress of the late war. He alao states that the effects
of these misfortunes have been alleviated in some mea
sure by a present to tbe Bishop and Trustees of a large
and well adapted building and grounds, in Orange
burg, for the use of the professors and students. The
liberal donor is Mr. Trenholm of Charleston, the ex-
Secretary of the Confederate Treasury. But the Trus
tees have no money with which to resume the exer
cises of tbe institution, and hence the appeal of the
Bishop for pecuniary assistance. Fonr thousand dol
lars are necessary to carry on the work this year; but
two hundred and fifty thousand dollars will be re
quired to put tbe institution on a secure and perma
nent basis. It is proposed to establish a preparatory
school for boys, which shall be of a high order, and

Bradley’s Ifew Patent Dnpex Ellip
tic (or Double) Sprint* Skirt.
T HIS Invention consists of Duplex (or two; Eilptic
Pare Refined Steel Springs, ingeniously braided
tightly and firmly together, edge to edge, making the
toughest, most flexible, elastic and durable Spring
ever used. They seldom bend or break, like the sin"
gle Springs, and consequently preserve their perfect,
and beautiful shape more than twice as lone as anv
Single Spring Skirt that ever lias or can be made.
The wonderful flexibility and great comfort and
pleasure to any lady wearing the Dfiplex Elliptic Skirt
will be experienced particularly in all crowded Assem
blies, Operas, Carriages, Railroad Cars, Church Pews,
Arm Chairs, for Promenade and House Dress, as the
Skirt can be folded when in nsc to occupy a small
place as easily and convenieftly as a Silk or Muslin
A lady having enioyed the pleasure, comfort and
great convenience of wearing the Dnplex Elliptic
Steel Spring Skirt for a single day will never after
wards willingly dispense with their use. For children,
misses and young ladies they are superior to all eth
ere.
The Hoops are covered with 2 ply donble twisted
thread and will wear twice as long as the single vam
covering wbidkisused oh all Single Steel Hoop Skirts.
The three bottom rods on every Skirt are also Donble
Steel, and twice or donble covered to prevent the cov
ering from wearing off tbe rods when dragging down
stairs, stone steps, &c., which they are constautly
subject-to when in use:
All are made of the new and elegant Co. ded Tapes,
and arc the best qnalityin every part, giving to the
wearer the most graceful and perfect shape possible
and are unquestionably tlie lightest, most desirable,
comfortable and economical Skirt ever made.
