Jle hsigone to the clime of cloudless skies,
Where augels their courts are keeping—
He haA left us with breaking hearts—and eyes
Grown heavy and drm with Weeping.
Oil dark are the days that are left to us,
Ami we think of the past with sorrow—
Asa traveller would, if t)te sun set thus,
To rise no more on the morrow.
True, he bid us not feel one fond regret,
When his heart had ceased its beating—
True, he bid us be gay and joyful vet.
Till the morn of a h .ipier meeting—
But the tranquil smile that his cheek put on.
And the love he breathed in dying,
Were the heavenly beams of his goodness, which,
gone,
Hade the parting scene more trying.
He has sunk to his rest in the primal hour,
Te his sky w as veil’d in mourning—
While the lamp of love in the young May bower
For him was brightly burning.
Asa rose that withers away in the spring— ,
Asa planet that sets forever—
Asa bird that dies while on theming—
He has gone to return—ah never.
SYNOPSIS ‘
Os Miscellaneous Items in the London
Pa/ters.
On the I'fJth of October, a man was dis
covered hanging upon a tree in England,
ami cut down before life wag extinct. Ho
said his name was W. Wolf; a native of N
York, aged 23, a comb-maker sty trade, and
had been driven to the act for want of bu
siness. A sublcription was.entered into
for conveying him to his native country.
A grand boar hunt took place in the vi
cinity of Hanover in honor of the King’s
visit, and £5 vktimnfell in the fatnt attack
From the description given of this hunt in
i an English paper, it was truly a hoar Bunt.
The King did not join in the snort. The
sportsmen were obliged to travel through
mud and mire leg deep. Booths were e
lectcd with most wretched entertainment.
You might see, says the account, a dashing
colonel drinking spirits out of the common
cup that had saiuted the lips of hundreds,
having a piece of black bread in one side
of his mouth, and x segar in the other, while
a wedge of German sausage, surmounted ,
tty a piece of raw bacon, gave employment
to the thumb of his light hand.
The Edinburg Star mentions the arrival
of a vessel in which a leak was discovered
caused by the horp of a fish which had pe
netrated through the plank.
London, Nov. 8
The spepch of (he IS’ ig of France on
opening the Chamber*, which arrived yes
terday by express, describes in strong lan
guage the internal prosperity of France.
If we take a view of our domestic state,
tie says, what motives have we not to bless
Providence ! The sensible progress cf in
dustry, agriculture, and the arts, attest that
of commerce; and very soon new chan
nels, by multiplying the means of commu
nication and of traffic, will extend the gen
eral good to all parts of the kingdom.”—
Stress is also laid on the prosperity of the
finances We rejoice at this prosperity of
our neighbors, which affird another proof
of the vivifying effects of freedom, and the
best refutation of those who condemn the
Revolution; the parent of the institutions
which have carried forth this activity aud
prosperity. Though the amount of liberty
enjoyed the French fulls far short of
wlut was in the contemplation of the great
veil good men of the Constituent Assem
bly, still ir has been of incalculable benefit
to them. I’ll eratuple, we trust, will not
always be thrown away on unhappy Italy
As was expecrtul, an allusion has been
made to Tim key. What is said, however,
is exceedingly vague. “ Great calamities
afflict the Hast. Let us hope that they ap
pioacli their termination, and that the pru
dence and cordiality of all the Powers will
find the means of satistyiug .what religion, 1
policy uid humanity may justly demand.”

We hope our patrons will not believe us less
sincere in our grateful wishes for their prosperi
ty, although we compress the usual compliments
of the season in a brief paragraph. Our congrat
ulations are honest aud hearty, and could we be
lieve that words would add to their weight, our

We are gratified in being able to announce
to tlie lovers of the drama, the arrival of our old
friend Mr. Cooper; who liae been engaged for
a few nights, and appeal’s this evening in the
character of Macbeth.
The merchants of Ncw-York have almost
unanimously agreed upon A memorial to Congress
in favor of a bankrupt law.
The ‘ship Augusta, capt lijfood, brings New.
York dates to the 24th inst. The papers con
tain little of interest.
Daniel D. Tompkins esq. vice-president of the
United States left New-York for Washington on
the 21st. to take his satt as president of the sen-
aie.
Capt. Ad-erton from TencrilTe, informs, that
on the 2d of November, in lat 24, 56, long. 26,
he saw and passed within about 6 miles of a line
of battle ship, and a schooner, steering south, un
der press of sail, which he supposed to be the
Franklin, 74 and her tender ihe Dolphin. The
ship was ahead, though the weather was fine, tlie
sea smooth, and the schooner hadall sails set.
(The F.ranklin left Sandyhook on the 10th Oct.)

We observe by an advertisement in tlie
Ncw-York papers, that the steam ship/o
---bert-tulton was to have been sold, on the
15th inst. under a decree of the Court of
Chancery.
On Saturday evening last, the water in
Savannah river began to rise with more
than ordinary rapidity, and by Sunday
evening the river was higher, we believe,
than it has been for ten jNai s pasl,—per
haps higher than it has been but once, since
the memorable fresh, known bv the name
of the Yazoo Fresh,” when the town was
overflowed,.and boats sailed through Brosd
street. In the present fresh, tlie water
was over the fl mr and almost running into
the windows of (he stram-boa} Vfficc ; the
lowlands on both rifles, the river Were com
pletely covered, and it ‘became necessary
to have a ferry for foot persons passing
from the upper to the foiyer part of the
town of Hamburg, and to the foot of the
bridge on the Soulh-Caruliua side.—A car
riage, with four persons in it, attempting |
to drive across the guily, above Augusta, i
was soon in swimming water, and being i
unable to gt on, one* of the horses was
drowned, —three of the persons in the car
riage were obliged to make their escape by
plunging into the water and swimming to
shore ; the other, wiw> couid rot swim, got
upon tlie top of the carriage, and remain- ,
ed there in water, till he was taken oft—
the water being completely over the car
riage ; one horse, in his exertions, broke out
of the harness, and was saved. The car
riage remains in the water still. We have
not heard as yet of much damage time by
the fresh. Augusta Adv. 20th inst. *
\Ve are sorry to learn that an uufortu
-1 natcactident occurred at Hamburg on Sa
turday evening last. While, on some oc
casion, a uuruber of persons were firing a
cannon gun, at the 9th discharge,
went oft’uneXMctedly, amt before the ram
rod was dravvtiTou?, by which, one arm of I
the person ramming down the cartridge
was blown off—anti the other so broken
and mangled that it became nei essarr to
take both arms off abore Ihe elbows.—One
eye also was so much injured that it will
probably be lost, and the face considerably
b'uisetl. The uoforfunatd man, ileneinl
ing on his labor Tor support, has thus sud
denly been deprived of his ordinary means
of gaining a subsistence. ib.
