Dec. 20th, 1858. j
(Jenthnun: Your note of tbe 15th iu&t. has been
received, haying that you had heard that I had
been benelilted by the uaeof Wood’s Hair Restora
tive, and requesting my certificate of the fact if I
had no objection to give it.
I award it to you cheerfully, because I think it
uuu. My age i. J . about O'* years; the color of ray
itair auburn, and inclined to curl. Some five or
six years since it began to turn gray and the scalp
on the crown of my head to lose its sensibility aud
dandruff to form upon it. Each of these disagreea
biiities increased with time, and about four months
since a fourth was added to them, by hair falling
off the top of my head aud threatening to maka
me bald.
Iu this unpleasant predicament, 1 was induced
to try Wood's Hair Restorative, mainly to urrest
the falling oft* of my hair, for 1 had really no ex
pectation that gray hair could ever be restored to
it* original color, except from dyes. 1 was, how
ever, greatly surprised to find, after the use of
two bottles only, that not only was the falling oft
arrested, but the color was restored to the gray
hairs and sensibility to the scalp, aud dandruff
ceased to form on my head, veiy much to the
gratification of my wife,at w hose solicitation I was
induced to try it
For this, among the many obligations I owe to
her sex, I strongly recommend all husbands who
value the admiration of their wives, to profit by
my example, and u*e it if growing gray or getting
bald. Very respectfully,
11ENJ. A. LAVENDER.

A dispatch from Washington the 3d,
states that dispatches received at the Na

commanding officer of the Gulf Squadron,
enclose communications addressed to him
by the officers commauding tho Erench

They inquire of Capt. Jarvis under
what law of nations he captured the two

Capt. Jarvis declines entering into any
explanation of tho matter, and- refers
them to his Government for a reply to
their inquiries.
The question, it is said, is likely to
prove embarrassing to tho Government,,
