TH E DAILY SUN,
Eicltcuicut In Illiode Island.
A dispatch from Providence, the 4th,
the day of the election iu that Stale,
says all day loDg in this city the excitc
nieut has been intense, llusiness has
been neglected, streets deserted, and the
polls thronged. Money has been poured
out by thousands, and men stood around
the polls padded with bills, openly buy
ing voters at prices varying from fivo to
sixty dollars. One individual in this city
put his vote up at auction, and after a
spirited bid from the two parties, it was
knocked down at thirty-tivo dollars to
the Union men. This system of purchase
was commenced at an early hour in the
day by the l’adelford party, and as an
offset their opponents were compelled to
pursue a similar course to counteract the
powerful persuasions thus employed.
The result is that the friends of the for
mer party soon gave out, and from that
time forward the gaius were all iu favor
of Sprague. Nothing like this public
and private wholesale bribery lias ever
been seen in Rhode Island. Probably
one hundred and sixty thousand dollars
between tbe two parties havo thus
changed hands, besides the large amount
invested in bets. The same system of
corruption has prevailed throughout the
State, and with such barefacedness that
men of property paying taxes have asked
and received the prices of their votes.
To-night the oily is alive with rejoic
ing, and liquor is flowing in streams.

Death of n Freur.li Executioner.
One of tbe performers iu the horrid
tragedies of the Robespierre period, has
just met a dismal end at the age of it 7.
A vngront and a beggar for the last 40
years, Lazaretz, being known us Tablitz
Le Barbu, sought and gut shelter this
week at the fireside of a peasant in the
hamlet of St. Symphorien, near byons.
Left alone, he was stuck with epilepsy,
and fell headlong into the brazier, lie
had beeu factotum to the miscreant Car
rier, in executing tbe fumous Noijudes at
Nantes, when hundreds of Rretous were
plunged into the Loire in batches and
handcuffs.
Another Prize Fltflit In Englnuit.
A prize fighter in England, named Sam
Hurst, (his ring cognomen being the
“Statesbridge Chicken,”) has put up with
tbe editor of Hell’s Life, £lO, as an earn
est of his willingness to fight John Mor
rissey for £IOO or £2OO a side’ If Mor
rissey declines, tho Chicken will meet
Heeuau, victor or vanquished in liis fight
with Sayers.
