than usual attention lo the making up of that
paokaga ; that the package was always de-
pnslted in the postoffioa here, and in lima for
the Newton mail; and that ottr subscriber’s
papers were obliged to reaoti Newton—there
being no intermediate poatoflice. Living
ston eays these statements were “false, and

need any proof I If so, we again assert their
truth. Our Mailing Clark—a gentleman of
fho highest integrity—verifies our assertion,
uiifi the Pest Master at this place assures ua
that the Newton package is regularly mailed.
We can make no further answer to tka

We know ttide n much complaint in Ba

AUGUSTA, GA !
Grant Pai'sMr:—After appointing negroet-
and obnoxious vagabonds to offieo all over
the South, in pursuance of hiu divine sent!
menl—"Let us have peace," the President
has at last discovered that that isn’t the kind !
of oil to pour upon tho troubled waters, and
that the people of the South cannot be up-
penned and tranquilized by torments mid in- |
suits. To Creswell's infamous proposition j
to outrage and insult the people of Savannah
by fastening the notorious Simms upon them j
as postmaster, Urant says nay, and refuses
to make the appointment.
This is one of the acts of the General |
President-Emperior that has our cordial ap
proval, and we pause for the next.
The following are the latest telegrams on !
tne subject:
Washington, Msy 7.—There has been a
severe struggle over the Navatnah Post Of
fice, Postmaster General Cressnell un- j
doubtedly nominated Sims; but the Presi
dent refused the commission. It appear* I
that 81ms and other extremists are desirous i
of filling the Georgia Federal offices with oe. j
groes, thu* rebulking the Georgia Legists ;
lure for expelling them
It is stated that Clift opposed Sims bitterly,
and prominent Georgians also opposed the
appointment aa mlaehletaus.
