XAW OF GEORGIA.
AN ACT to provide far the call of a
Convention to reduce the number o(
the General Assembly of the Slate
of Georgia, and for other purposes
therein-named. .
lie tt enacted by the Senate and House
of Representatives of the State of Geor
gia iw General Assembly met, and it is
hereby enacted by the authority of the
same, 1 hat thefirst Monday in April,"
1833, be, and the same is hereby desig
nated and set apart as the ddy on which
the citizens of Georgia qualified to vote
for members ot the Legislature, shall at
the several places prescribed by law for
holding such elections vote for delegates
to represent thorn in Convention, in num
ber equal -to their representation in both
branches of the General Assembly; such
elections to be eonducted, managed and
certified under the same law as are of
force in respect to elections of members
of the General Assembly.
Sec. 2. And be itfurther enacted , That
it shall be the duty of such managers to
transmit to his excellency the -Governor
the result of said elections under the laws
now offeree for conducting managing and
certifying elections of membersof General
Assembly as aforesaid, within 30 days af
ter such elec'ions—Whereupon it is made
the duty of His Excellency the Govern
or to issue his proclamation declaring the
result of said elections by naming the
individuals severally elected to represent
the good people df'Georgia in Convention
as contemplated by this act.
Sec. 3, And be it further enacted , That
every citizen of the Tinned States shall be
eligible to a seat in said Convention who
has attained the age of twenty-five years,
and'been an‘inhabitant of this State seven
years immediately preceding the day of
his election and who shall have resided
one year in-thexouoty for-which he shall
be elected.
Sec. 4, And be it further enacted, That
each member returned as duly elected,
shall previous to taking his seat in said
Convention take the following oath, or.
affirmation, viz: I, A, B. do solmnly
swear, that >1 will not attempt to add to,,
or take from the-constitution or attempt
to change or alter any other section,clause
or article of (he constitution of the S ate
of Georgia, olhfer than those touching the
representation in the General Assembly
thereof; and that 1 have been a citizen
of this statp for the last seven years, so
help me God. And any person elected
to a seat in said Convention, who shall
refuse to take the o ith aforesaid,‘shall not
be allowed to take his seat m said Con
vention.
iSec. 5, And be it further enacted, That
tbo members of said Convention sbaih
assemble on the fiist Monday in May af
ter iheir election, at Milledgeville, in
the Representative Chamber of thi State
House, for tbe purpose of entering upon
and consummating the great objects of
their convention, to-wit: a reduction and
equalization of the General Assembly;
shall have power to prescribe their own
rules and forms of business, and to deter
mine on rhe qualifications of their own
members; elect necessary officers, and
make all •orders which they may deem
conductive to the furtherance of the ob
ject for which such Convention shall as
semble.
Sec 6, And be it further enacted, Thai
it shall be the duty of His Excellency the,
Governoi to give publicity so the altera
tions and amendments made in the Con
stitution in reference to the direction [re
duction] of the number of the members
composing the General Assembly, and'
the fits; Monday in October next, after
the rising of the said Convention, he shall
fix for the ratification, of such new arti
cles as they may make for the object of 1
reduction and equalization of the Gener
al Assembly only; and if tatified by a ma
jor'ty of the voters who vote on theques- 1
tion of “Ratification” «r“ No Ratification
then and in that event, thw alterations
so by thpm made and ratified, shall be
binding on the people of this State and
not otherwise.
Sec. 7 And be it further enacted,\ That
itshallbea fundamental article „in the
formation or amendment of the Consti
tution, that each county of the Slate now
organized or laid oat, or which may her
after be created by law, shall be entitled
to at least one representative in the rep
resentative branch of the General Assem
bly.
Sec. 8, And be it further enacted, That
so soon as this act shall have become a
law, His Excellency the Governor,be, St,
he is hereby required to cause it to be
published in the Gazettes of this State,
once a week until the day fixed on by
this act for tbe election of delegates to
said Convention; and that all laws and
purts Os laws militating against this act,
be, the same are hereby repealed

f¥lo regulate the weighing of Fodder, Hay
I and Oats in bundles brought to the city of
Augusta in wagons, or carts for sale by weighr.
Sec. Ist. Be it ordained by the City Council
of Augusta, That all Fodder, Hay and Oats
brought to this city in wagons or carts for sate,
shall be weighed at the scales prepared for that
purpose near the lower market.
Sec. 2d. Be it further ordained, That it shall
he the duty of the clerk of the lower market to
superintend the weighing of all Fodder, Hay and
Oats, at all hours of the day, from sun rise till
sun set. And tha party selling such Fodder,
Hay or Oats, shall pay to the said clerk fifty cts
ot each wagon, and twenty-fire cents for each
cart or dray.
Skc. 3d- Be it further ordained, That every
person who shall violate the provisions of this
< Jrdiuflnce, may be fined in a sum not exceeding
Twenty Dollars.
