of the University of the State of Georgia.

Georgia, at the Academy,purfuant to anointment

The Members met according to adjournment, viz.

On an application of Mr. James Patrick, Hating, that
he had paid the amount of a verdi& and coils in an aftion
nflituted in the Superior Court of Greene county, by Ro
>ert M‘Alpine, on account of a mill dam erected by the
said Patrick on lands of the University, Ordered, That
►Mr. Dav is Grefliam be reauefted to render a statement to
this Board refpe&ing tlie laid suit at the next meeting.
The Board then adjourned until to morrow morning, 7

It appearing to the Board that Aquilja Scott was, during
their recess, appointed, by the President and Mr. Few, to
difeharge the duties of Treasurer until a meeting of the
Truflees could be had; and it appearing expedient and ne-
OefTary, under the present circumstances; therefore Re
vived, That this Board do approve of the appointment of
tle said Aquilla Stott as Treasurer fro tempore until the
aext meeting. ‘ •
The Board having appointed a Committee to report on
the mode of leafing the lands that are at present vacant,
•nd of renewing the leases of those which are near expiring,
ihev reported t!ie following Refolutiona, wlvh being fe
derally taken up and considered were agreed 00, viz.
Resolved, That the several trafts of land lying onr
Soulderlxjne, Richland, Falling, Fishing, Shoal, Sandy,
and Creeks, belonging to flbe University of Georgia,
)e leafed, in lots of 100 acres each t to the highest bidder*,
by the Agents in the several counties hereafter to be ap*-
pointed, for the term of ten years, taking separate notes*
with (mficient fccurity, for the furas to grow due and pay
able refpeftively on the 251!) day of December in each year,
Until the expiration of the afore said term of ten years.
Resolved, That where any leaft* have been heretofore
executed by any Agent of this Board, and the time men
tioned in the said ieafe Or leases has not yet expired, it (hall
be the duty of such Agent to tdafe the said lots again for
fiirh a terra as that ail the leases will expire and be com
pletely ended on the 25th day of December which Will be
iu the year 1808; Provided. that, in all cafes’ of letting
nut the aforsidid lots, the tenants in polfcifion (hall have
the preference where he, foe, or they* may bid a fura
equal to. any other person. ’
Resolved , That, where any uncultivated lot Or lots may

term of four years from the date cf the lead, under the

Agents 01 this Board. And it is hereby ordered, as ail ad*

acres leafed of the Agents aforefaid, and for (every art* so
cut down the sum of five dollars (ball be paid pet annum;

Refolded, That, if it (Would happetl, after the day
appointed for leafing the lots on the several tra& of land
belonging to the University, ,that there (hall be any lot or
lots remaining unleafed, the Ag#nt for such trad (ball have

Resolved , That the Compenfatioh to be allowed the A
gents of this Board for their services flw.ll be fix per centum
on all the monies received and pjud over by them: Aid
that reafonaMe compensation fhafi be made by the Board
to the Agents for those trails which are now uncultivated,
for their services during theibnr years in which feid landk
are free frorti rent: And that the compenfatiort to be al
lowed to the Treasurer for htt services -fliall be four per
eeiitum on all monies received and accounted for by him.
Resolved, That tlie Secretary cfo write to the proper
Officer in the date of South Carolina, requesting him to
furniftithis Board with the grant for a trait of 5000 acres
of land, belonging to the University, which lies in the
fork between Tugalo and Keoivee rivers, if fnch grant was
forwarded in order to be regiflered in the said date of South
Carolina^
Resolved, That it fliall be the duty of the several A
gents to tranlmie to the Board, annually, an accurate ac
count of all monies due, and fit>m whom: And it (hall
also bfe the duty of the Treasurer to lay before the Board,
at their annual meeting, an account, fuecifylng all monies
lodged in his hands, and by and di expenditures made.
Resolved, That the Agent? emplfiycd by tliis Board do
give bond, with approved leCurkyj to the Trances, and
their fuccefloi-s in office, in the Ulifi pf iocb dollars on
each tra'ft of land superintended by them, for tire faithful
performance of tfieir duty, which bond (hall be taken by
the Treasurer, and by him tranfmjfted to the Board at their
next mf&ing: That said Agents (hall be empowered to
collet and receive the rents annually beedming due on the
leases made by. them and (bill atCount with
and pay over so ttpf Treasures, annually; all the monies
they (hall so receive, which account and payment (hall be
accompanied with an oath, that they are just, and so full
of all they have received; the oath to be administered by
any Justice of the ?eace: I'hat the Treafiirer (hall, before
he enter? on the duties of his office, take an path fbr tfe
faithful performance thereof, and bond, widi approved
fecuiity, to the Trustees, and tlieiffpcceflbrt jit* office, in
the sum of 500.0 dollar*, -for the like faithful performance
of hts duty; the oath to bfc adminilfored by either of the
Judges of the Superior “Courts*
Resolved, That the Treasurer deliver all the notes pay
able to the Trustees Into tlie hands of the Agents of Greene
and Harttock counties, and that the feid Agents do several
ly, without loft of time, proceed to the collection of the

Resolved, That the following pfrfbns be A
gcutj to this Board, who (hall I'upf rintend the leafing of
the land in their refpe&ive counties, and perform the duties
of their refpe&ive offices, as contemplated in resolutions
entered into by this B&vd, viz. In the, county of Hancock,
Andrew Baxter; in the counties of Greene and Oglethorpe,
Da.vif. Grefllam; in the county cf Franklin, Larkin Cleve
land; and i* the county of Jackson, Roderick Eafiy; and
in case of death, resignation, or refofei to aft, on the part
of any of tlie Agents before named, tin Trustee of tliis
Board who may reside neared the place where the Agent so
dying, refigiting, or refiifing to a&, redded, (hall appoint
in writing a fiicceffor.
Resolved, That Davis Greflism, Agent for the county
pf Greene, be diredled to call on William Greer for a fettle*
ment of all accounts v/etvfecn him and the Truflees of the
University; aod in case laid Greer (houid refofe or fail
to make luch fettletncnt, and pay over all monies in his
hands to the said Agent, that he be dire£led to pursue such
legal measures as'he may deem necessary to compel fitch
payment: And the said Agent is farther directed to apply
to the said William Greer for all books, bonds, notes, and
other documents relative to the fends of the University; and
that hetw-requefted to lay before the Board, at them next
meeting, a statement, fpecifying the exadl number of lots
fold in foe town of GreenemoroUgh, tlie names of the se
veral purchafefj, the amount of foies, and foe number of
lots vet unfold.
Refohc<{, Thatjhe fevcral Agents by this
Board, after giving due notice, by advertisement, at three
or more of the mod public places in the county, do proceed
to feafe the fevcral lots at such. time, and place as they may
think proper; and that this duty be performed so soon as it
can be conveniently done confident with foe interest of
-this Inftittaion.
