THA I', agreeably to an A6l of Congress of the United
States of America, palled at Philadelphia the 28th
day of May, 1796, laying duties on carriages for the con
veyance of persons, and repealing the former acts for that
purpose, them fliall be levied, collected, and paid, upon
all carriages lor the conveyance of perlons, which lhali be
kept by or for any per lon for his or her own ule, or to let
out on hire, or for the conveying of paiTengers, the several

A LETTER from Martinique mentions, that the
Commander in chief there had received advice from
the Governor of St. Bartholomew, Hating, that several of
the Tailors lately belonging to the Kcrmionc had been ap
prehended in that ifiand, attempting to cut out a vefi’e!;
that he would keep them until they had fullered the pu
nifimient to lie infUfted upon them by the Swefifh law,
(which is only corporal) and that then he Ihould he ready
to deliver them up to tlw* Commander in chief of his Ma
jcuy’s forces to windward. Turner, who took command
of the (Lip after the mutiny, is among them. The fame
letter adds, that one of the crew had fomc time before been
executed at Martinique.
Montego Bay, June 23. Ycllerday about 1 o’clock
the following awful and melancholy event happened at Iron
Shore wharf: Mr. William Irving, son of James Irving,
Elq. ot Rio Bueno, and Mr. Henry Binham, son of Dr.
QRinhavn, of Hanover, in Confequcnce of a heavy fhowerof
rain, were compelled to take flicker in a piazza of one of
the wharf (lores, and in a very fiiort space of time after
were both struck dead by lightning. This Hidden fate mull
lx* a great afllitftion to their relatives and friends, as they
were both young mtn of good promise.

dyminn, under my command, made tlie following captures
finee file failed from Cork under your orders: La Ravanche
French fdu.imer privateer, ol 12 brass fix pounders and 88
men, coppered, victualled and firmed for three months
cruilb, out 21 days, had taken nothing. Ix* Brtitris Frem li
lugger privateer, of 6 fix pounders and 50 men, fitted for
two months crude, out 1 j days, and laid taken two neutral
Ihips. The St. Antonia, a Spanilh schooner, pk reed fi r
id funs, had 6 fix pounders only mounted, lalt from the
-Havana, and charged with dilpatches from thence and
South America for Spain; the dilpatches were thrown o

I marched from Limerick on Sunday morning with 60
dragoons, the Dublin militia, their fieldpieces, with two
curricle guns, to open the communication with Dublin,
which I judged of the ntniofl importance to G-nermHiit.
Bv means of cars for tlie infantry. I reached this place in
48 hours. lam now, at 7 o'clock this morning, (Mon
day) marching to liirroimd the town of Kildare, the head
quarters of tin relxds, with 7 pieces of-artillery, t4O dra
goons, and 350 infantry. I have left the whole ccuntry

the troops and yeomanry corps. I hope to be able toAbr
ward this to volt by-the mail coach, which will efeert to
Naas. lam futficiently flrong. Aon may depend upon

committed on fome of the oilicers and men have exaiixr

about 10 milts from Wexford, so advantagcoully as will
require a great military force to cfiHodge them. Their

mean to make their grand Hand. They have their appre
hensions, and are determined at any rate to fell their lives

Another account llafes-that the rebels have ljcen driven
from Wexford with the lolls of 900 men; but that the
King’s military also experienced great loss, the pikes of
the iiiliirgents (14 feet in length) preventing the UTectiisl
use of tlie bayonet. It is said a company cf the North
Cork militia and a detachment cf Meath militia have been
all cut off by the rebels.
