For tlit'Cure of Bilious, Remittent and In-

The uativo Febrifuge is altered. The proprie
tor is aware tliat the common objection* to ait new
preparations will be urged against this. To obviate
all such objections, lie hn« simply to state that it is
prepared according to the receipt of an eminent
pliysicnu, who used it with perfect success
through a long practice, in perhaps tho most sick
ly region of our country, viz: the Mississippi val
ley .. Again from tlid exalted estimation in which
Quinine is held, not only by the people, but by
the most skillful physician*, it will appear supera-
rogatory to oiler any new article. But the Native
Febrifuge possesses all the s power amt certainty
of Quinine in controlling Fever without affecting
the head, and may lie safely used therefor, where
Quinine fct inadmissible. ’It is not the purpose of
the proprietor however sanctioned by custom on
such occasion*, to attempt n display of medical
knowledge by adapting some one of the contra
dictory theories afloat, with regard to the charac
ter aud causes of Fever.
Believing with the learned Gregory that though
there has been so much written concerning Fever
there is no one subject in the whole circle of meili-
cal science which still involves so many disputed
points. Letting all theories pns*. wo stand by
fuels. The first of which is tjuit the Native Fe
brifuge will cure fever, from whatever cause it
may have originated, and if any doubt exists, as to
the tact we invite the atllicte’d to tho te«t, with
confidence a* to the issue. What it hu* done it
will do. The following certificate of one well
known will show what it lias done:
Savaxxar, 12th May, 1847.
Mr. Jus. A. La Roche having requested me to
state my knowledge of the Native Febrifuge, I
take pteusure iu stating tlmt it was used benefici
ally in tlio Fevers of the valley ofthe Mississippi
and Arkuusas, in nil cases in which Quinine is us
ually exhibited, and was admissable iu conges
tions ofthe brain when Quinine was supposed to
be contrudicutcd.

Dear Sir:—Incompliance with my promise to
let you hear from me, with regard to the effect of

lowing statement of fact*. For nearly 3 years my

tinually recurring Chill* and Fever*, notwith
standing ail the remedies prescribed by our best
Physicians, and at the time I procured’ The Na
tive Febrifuge, we had heroine perfectly despon
dent, fenring that death alone would terminate her
disease, hut I am happy to state that the use of
one bottle lins broken the Fever completely and
restored her so far as to require only a little time
to recruit her wasted energies and place her iu
perfect health, such lias been the change produc
ed in her habit and constitution by The Native

ing comments upon this useful mid convenient
article:
Fairbanks Platform Scales.—It is not often that
we are induced to laud an article of trade, and
wc never do unless perfectly satisfied tlmt we are
commending something that is useful. We can-
not consent to gratify tlie cupidity of an indivi
dual, at the risk of imposing tho confidence of
, thousands of our reader* who rely upon the hon
esty of our statement*, if not iu the mfiilibiUtv of
our jiidmeiit. That great improvements have
been made within a few years, 111 the instrument*
of weighing merchandise, is a fact familiar to busi
ness men. The nntinue clumsy nnd inaccurate
method* of weighing, Imvo given way to the in
vention of American mechanical skill, and tlie ut
most precision has been attained. A variety of
Platform Balances ore manufactured nnd used,
which cannot be relied on for any considerable
decree of accuracy: ho that they ’necessarily in
volve one party iu pecuniary loss. It therefore
affords 11* pleasure to refer to the Platform Scale*
«*f Mr. Fnirlrnnk, which have heon extensively
used in all part* of tho United State* for several
year*, and given, ns fir a* our knoivlcdged ex
tends, very general satisfaction. We purchased
011c of these scale* three year* since, and have us
ed them constantly for weighing paper, &e. and
for accuracy ului durability, wo nro quite sure,
they have uot, and perhaps cannot, he surpassed.
The plau of construction is philosophical and
simple. The employment of two levers, with a
single beam, is certainly the most practicable, in
a compound platform balance. Any increase of
tho number of lever* or an additional beam, ren
der* the instrument more complicated, less precise
iu it* operation nud more liable to derangement.

tins misfortune, I einnlavcd mvsclf in
fragment leaves of an old volume, printed in Eng
Land sotuo .hundred years ago'. Among these
•pattered leaVoa I reud of an herb which had bean
analyzed by some, of England’s ancient Alche-
mists, shewing properties and qualities nover be-
foro fouud iu any plant tliat was ever discovered-
This oue herb, under tho force ofthe Retort
aiur Crucible, developed more than ten distiuct
properties.. This fact stmek my mind so forcibly,
that it was impossible to get rid or it. ’Something
seemed to toll me that Providence, whose speciiu
care is extended towards all bis creatures, lind
never concentrated iuto 0110 small herb so many
medicinal qualities, ns various and as complicated,
although perfectly identical as the human blood,
without n wise uud good purpose. Here was to
be found tho acids, the alkalis, the oils, the water,
tlie air, tlie units, tlio soda, &c., all continued, con
centrated, and chemically united into oue single
element of power, forming a substance inorelil-
lied and in affinity to the human blood than was
ever bifloro discovered iu the works of nature.
Laboring under these impressions for several
years, I became uuea.*v, discontented, aud un
willing to coniine uiysoli* longer to the duties of a
farmer.
Every tiling seemed to point my mind to one
object, viz.: the preparation of this herb into a
medicine. I then determined to return to tlio city
of N. York. I did so, nud immediatelv inquired
for the herb. It was not to be founil. I then
sent to Europe and there found it under another
name.
Having prepared tlio article to my satisfaction,
I gave it uway to nil who would use it. Hun
dred*, I might say thousands, took it into their
fumilie* and used it: some for otto thing aud
some for another, nud all from tlie very first to
the very last, pronounced it of unrivaled excel
lence nnd power.
The first case that cniue under my observation,
was a man that bad lost the use of Itirf arm for
some years. Tho Ointment restored hi* arm
completely iu a few days. This surprised mo it*
much as it did the pntieuf. After him there came
a mail with sore eyes produced hy gunpowder—a
very had case indeed. One box only sulficied to
make a perfect cure. And 1 would here remark
tlmt hundred* have been cured of sore eves,
who never found any relief but iu this Oint
ment.
There next came a woman who was suffering
excruciating pain from the ague in the face.—
Her physician (thinking it the toothache,) had
extracted eleven of her teeth. Blit tlie difficulty
still remained ns had ns ever. The Application
of Ihe All‘llenling Ointment was attended with
iuuuediuto cessation of pain. Her face however,
begun to swell* uud the surface »vns covered over
witli pimple* of eruption like prickly heat. Iu
one day nil this disappeared. About the same
time, a lady made application with it for the
headache of long standing, and n falling of tlie
hair. The Ointment cured her headache, and
restored her hair. Since this, I have known the
Ointment to cure crises often, twenty and fortv
years standing. I hesitate not to say, tlmt it is
ulmost nn infallible remedy for this complaint.
About tlii* time there were two ea*es, one of
Consumption, and tho other of Scrofula, which
had bullied tlio skill of every physician who pres
cribed. It was wonderful to witness tho effect of
the Ointment on these persons. No one would
believe it unless they had personally witnessed it.
But it did the work properly. There was no imlf
way business, for they recovered their health in a
few months.
Rheumatism, Fever. Quinzy, Sore Throat, Cu
taneous Eruptions, diseases of the Spine, und
Nervous Complaint* were treated with unheard
of success. Butin Chest disease*, miicIi us Asth
ma, pain and oppression, I believe there is no bet
tor remedy. Also, tlie common diseases, such as
Ulcer Sores. Scald Head, Humor* ofthe Skin,
Inflammation, Files, Sore Eyes, Sprains, Bruises,
nuil Burns, it seem* to he a perfect antidote.—
People would come iuto the store smiling, wish
ing to know if I was really the Seventh Son, or
whether the Ointment that 1 gave them was indeed
nil-healing in Rs nature. For said they, not one
single application has failed to cure.
Liver Complaint, particularly, was treated with
great aud universal success.
It produced such good results in all case* that it
lias been noised abroad, and I was offered sums of
money for a receipt to make it for private use
merely. Every limn spoke well of it, as it had
done *0 much good.
Not withstaudingull, I Imvc been careful not to
recommend it. except in cases I knew it would do
good. 1 was never willing to lend myself to any
tiling without first testing its merit*. ’This 1 en
deavor to do oit every occasion, and when I acted
us one of the Sick Committee in the i.odge of I.
O. of O. F. I then tested it upon Brother* iu the
most critical condition*, and had abundant upper
tunity of proving its worth.
And, in conclusion, I would remark that I have
placed this Ointment before tlie people oftho U.
State* during tlm last nine or twelve month*, and
so general has been the satisfaction, and so great
amount of good done, that more than half u mill
ion of boxes have already been sold, i do really

the following of nearly nine years standing is for

Mr. Editor: Sir,—My seine of duty to my suf

following communication; nnd lam in hopes tlmt,
should yoii gee proper to give it iu whole or iu

violent pain in my back ami loiu*, nnd the day
foljowing with a total suppression or stoppage of

emiuenco and distinction ; for thi'rty-six hour* I
suffered as much, to nil appearance, n* it was ,
possible for human nature to endure, and nt lust 1
found relief only by tiie help of the catheter. I
applied then to several eminent physician* both
in Baldwin and Joiius, without receiving any ben-

tormenting complaint and my friendly catliotor.—
Here, as there, 1 applied to iho most skillful phy

idler having suffered at time* the most excrucia

after having spent a great deal of money (at least
$500) on doctors during the time, I was induced
to try Dr. M. S. Thomson, of .Macon, and though
I entertained the most violent prejudice to hi*
mode of practice, my necessity compelled me to
go, for I hud then been confined to my house for
ten day*, and had to resort to the use ofthe ca

stated my case to him, nnd ho gave mo medicine.
