*** At & meeting of the Joint
Com miller fur ilintribution ui mimics collected
for the relief of the distyessed sufferers by the
late fire, Savannah. Y brainy 24th, 1820.
'The- Board took into consideration the list
of applications for rcli£fi and the amount of
losses, whereupon It was resol veil, I hut the fol
lowing claims be rejected, as not fulling within
the province of the yharituhle fund entrusted to
this Board, to be distributed amongst the dis
tressed sufferers by the. hue fire.
[Litt entered, on the Minute*.]
Resolved, That the said rejected list be ej>-
.tqfed on the Minutes for the information of all
concerned, wiih leave to cither of the claim-
urns, to make explanations as to his or her cir-
outyst knees' and to adduce proof thereon, to

tion now mnde, if this he applied for, on or be
fore the 2dilay of March next.
Extract from the Jilin "tea,
AUGUSTUS DOUS8ET, Sec'ry.
Many of the applications before the Joint
Committee Imve been rejected for an entire
v» ant of evidence and formality, which might
have been avoided by proper attention to the
rule heretofore recommended: if this be wil
fully licgh-clcd, it is but natural to suppose that
the pefsop applying is indifferent about relief,
and not an object ot the fund ut the distribution
of this Board, ll is therefore, again, and for the
lust time recommended, that incapacity to hear
the hws, and the state and circumstances of the
person applying, (where not known to some of
the members) must appear, by actual ufiidut it
or collateral evidence: otherwise*, persons hw\
ultimately complain of the amount allotted,
which would have been chffhreni, Imd proper
and common precaution been taken. Many ap
plicants, no doubt, fully entitled to the atten
tion of the Board, are strangers to them, and
must attend to tlieir own interest, and not im
pose upon the members, the necessity of decid
ing unsatisfactorily to themselves, or seeking
for information from others, for the justification
oi tlieir votes.
