portions of the Caroliuas and Georgia. Thegradlng,
except for tho first twouty miles la generally light;
and upon the most of the sections the excavation
aud einbankmunt alternate favorably; the excep
tions being lu the two heaviest cuts. The material
Is of a character easily moved, the growth of tbe
country ufibrds abundance of timber suitable for
bridgiugand cross-ties; and it 1s believed that uo
work offers, in facilities for construction, greater
inducements to contractors, especially thoso using
negro lubor.
Tho compauy te unliroly out ol debt, aud luu due

nearly 400,000 acres of land.
Tho road connects with and te an extension of
the Vickburg and Jackson Railroad, completed and
lnftill operation to tho JllsstesJppl river at Vickburg;
opposite which city, lnnAmlslaua, commences tho
Vicksburg, Shreyeuport aud Texas Railroad, now
under contract for its whole distance and in rapid
progress of construction. It Intersects the Now
Orleans and Jackson, Great Northern Railway at
Jackson, and through that at Canton, connects with
the Mississippi Control Railway, tbo iron of which
te now belug laid to HoUy Springs. It intersects
with tho Mobilo and i >hio Railroad, as already stat
ed. near Marlon, aud Its point of intersection meets
with thu North-eastorn and Southwestern Railroad
in Alabama, and through that unites with tho roods
lu Virginia. Tounesseo and North Carolina. It is
also au indtepensablo link in tho line of Railways
that uro to unite Charleston and Savannah, through
Montgomery* Vicksburg, Shrevouport and Kt Paso,
with tho I’iioitlc Ocean running its entire length on
thosamoparalloloriatUudowith thoso placos. It
te thus obvious that this line of work is one ortho
moil important unfinished enterprises In the coun
try. It te thorough National in Us character; for
U unites Malno and Now Orleans, and tbe Atiaullu
and the Mississippi, by indlssoluablo bonds. But
whilst thus National, it appoals especially for aid to
Southern men and Southern enterprise, for when
completed, with tbo intermediate gap in Alabama,

it will, with its connections, now built and being
built, ruu right through the heart of those great
Southern cotton-growing States, Louisiana, Missis

unites tbe great inland sea with the broad ocoan.
Those facte aro stated to call attention to this line
of road and to induce capitalists and contractors, to
embark liborally in its construction, iho fifteen
miles of completed Railroad, with Its equlpmoute

McCarthy ginned sea island
COTTON IN LIVERPOOL.
A BROKER in Liverpool reporting class and val*
ue ora consignment of the McCarthy Ginned
Sea Island Gotten from a house In this oily, writes
as follows;
“H., 7 bags Carish color, with a little shell, not
much; but tho peculiarity of this quality is the sta*
pie. and the style of Its cleaning and putting up;
different to tho usual Roller Gin operations. Tbe
sample before handling, has some slight appearance
or having boen Saw Ginued. On examination, how
ever, shows that all tbe staple, both as to length
and uniformity, bos been preserved, aid a much
greater degree offreedora and kindness has beon
given by thu process. This remark applies more
or less to all tbo marks or this shipment. In <tis
instance, tbo staple te stout and a good length, and
without being fine, te not course.”
The undersigned, agents for the abovo mentioned
Gins, always have a supply on hand, at 4125 each.
