Tho attempt will be made to carry your oily

to hero—by violence and blood. I have been
iui'urmed to-day by reliable parties that clubs
from this city ana Washington, called “ Rip
Raps." “ Plug Uglies," “ Blood Tubs," &o., are
all ready armed and prepared to goto Phila
delphia, several hutidred strong, to aid in mirry-
tug the election' oi Philadelphia, for the Know
Nothings. They will come, I have no doubt.
Let your vigiluuce committee watch their ar-
ivai, and as you have a Democratic police and
■iieriiT, be prepared to give them a suitable re
ception.
If the Democracy here have been overpower
ed by physical force, let tbe Democracy o.

the business of our place opens most encourag
ingly. For several weeks past our principal
streets have been thronged with creats and
wugous, loaded with cotton, oud our cotton
buyers und merchants havo been exceedingly
busy. The supplies of goods of every deacrlp
non, are umplo, and sola on as good terms as
any other market in the Stato, all things being
considered. We can venture to boast ol the
character of our merchants, who are generally
men of the liigest iuiegrity, and unquestioua-
•le responsibility. Our cotton market is to a
very great extent, free from those tricks aud
tratugems designed to gull and swindle the
planter, which too often prevail to a very great
extent in other markets. From a connection
m twelve yean, with the Ware-house business
in tliis pluce, we arc prepared to speak advi
sedly upon this point. And besides, our cotton
market is notorious for paying tbe highest
prices of any other in the Iuteritor, all tbiugs
