Atlanta will paks thr Bugfi MTof the

herself directly in communication with
all the objective points and great re

the advantage of entering those markets
with fair competition, bnt every line of

By prompt action, we should seise the

Madison Narrow

-*tor Nunnally and Judge Boynton,
m Griffin, arrived in this bity yesterday
morning, on their return from an explor
ing expedition along the route of tbe
proposed narrow guage railroad from
Griffin to Madison. Colonel Nunnally
gives a most flattering aooount of the trip
and the disposition of tbe people along
the entire route. Everybody waa for the
railroad, and everybody ia willing to sub
scribe their bottom dollar in order to
aka itaauaeeaa.
On last Friday the party consulting of
Hon. A D. Nunnally, Judge J. S. Boyn
ton, Mr. J. 0. Kimball, Mr. Joseph H.
Johnson, Mr. Charles Johnson, Mr.
Harry Johnson, Mr. T. J. Brooks, Capt.
F. ft. ’Fitch, of the Griffin Star, and Wm.
J. J. Hunt, of the Middle Georgian, left
Griffin for the purpose of passing over
the roots of the proposed railroad, in
order to teat the sense of the people and
make tome estimate of what subscription
could bo mined. The weather for tbe
entire trip was very bad, yet the party
tn<u with the most enoouraging success,
he will be shown below.
On-Friday the party reached Jackson,
in Butte county, and held a meeting in
the oourt-honae. A good crowd wan
present, in spite of the bad weather.
Several speeches were made, and the
subscription books were opened, and in
a very ahort time 186,000 waa put down.
This waa a good start.
At balf-paat 10 o'clook Saturday, an
other meeting was held at Indian Springs.
Several speeches were again made,among
them one by Mr. J. 0. Kimball, who went
into an elaborate discussion of narrow
guages and their many adantages aa fi
ere to the great trunk lines,
ball,demonstrated
guage is what the peo]

The party remained until
Sunday, being royally entei
hotels and people generally of
1st watering-place. The hi
the people knew no bounds,
nothing too good to be provided
party to eat and drink, the beet of n
era) water was furnished in ini
supply and everybody enjoyed
and talked narrow goage.
Sunday afternoon the pi

per county, before night. A «
ing was held on Monday and an
Tuesday, the books opened and
handsome sum of of $42,000
scribed.

a great deal about the ffilRrax, and
that sort of thing; but since he had

succession of kindnesses at the
everybody he met. If this was wfii
meant by being ku kluxed, he would like
to be ku kluxed every day. This speech
was made at a supper given by tbe peo
ple of Monticello.
Tuesday evening the party continned
their trip to Madison. The authorities
bad been apprised of their coming and
had exoellent quarters prepared for them
at the hotel. At half past eleven o’clock
on Wednesday, the hour appointed for a
meeting, rain was descending it torrents.
CoL Nunnally says it was the heaviest
rain he ever witnessed. Yet there was a
large meeting—but mainly of the citizens
of Madison. It rained so hard that the
people from the country could aot oome
in. Speeohes were made by all the Grif
fin party, as well as by several gentlemen
with good effect On motion of Judge
Reese, a resolution was adopted
authorising the city authorities
to submit to the people a proposi
tion to subscribe the sum of 850,000 to
the Road, and committees were appoint
ed to canvas the various counties through
which the Road will pass until the re
quired sum of 8300,000 shall have been
subscribed.
The people of Madison were very en
thusiastic in favor of the road, and the
impression is that that oity, together
with the citizens of Morgan oounty, will
subscribe fully 8100,000.
Crops are looking fins along the entire
route traversed by the party; but owing
to the continuous wet weather the grass
and weeds are looking fine also. Farm-
era are very busy getting rid of tbe letter,
between showers, consequently they did
not have time to attend the meetings.
Their sympathy, however, ie known to
be with the enterprise, and they are
counted upon for liberal subscription.
Griffin, or Spalding oounty, will prob
ably go 8100,000 strong on the road.
This, with the subscriptions that have
already been reoelved, renders the thing
a daad sure fact, and the engineer* will
be put out at onoe. Mr. Kimball aaye
“ tbe road shall be built,” and that of
itself ie enoouraging.
It is seldom that a railroad or any
other kind of e public enterprise has
waked such a unanimity of feeling on
the part of the people interested. He
projectors have beoome enthusiastic, and
there is now a very reasonable probabili
ty that the Him ie not far off whea Mad
