Rochester, N. Y., January 3.—From
three nutil eleven o’clock tliis morning
tho city was comparatively quiet. Four
companies of the fifty-fifth regiment are
guarding the jail and its approaches, and
loaded cannon are placed to command

and there is a good deal of hooting of
the military, but no overt act was com

‘‘Avenge Your Brothers.” Brigadier

and fire-arms were handed to him by his
friends.

Warning Words.
The strength and nervous energy of the
human body ought to be iucreaaed during the
the winter, for two reasons: In the first place, disea
ses cf the most deadly character may be generat'd
at this season; aud secondly. It is of the utmost im
portance that during tho cold weather mouths the
system should be put in a condition to withstand the
effects of tho Spring miasma, and tho subsequent
depressing best of Hummer. It is, therefore, ad visa-
i fact essential, to tone, regulate and invigorate
tho dtgaative and secretive organ* st this period of
the year, aud of all the stomachlca and alteratives at
present known, Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters is the
powerful, the most harmless, and the most
agreeable. Tbs temperature of winter would be in
itself a glorious tonic, if it did not. uufortunatcly,
bring with It a volume of chilling moisture and un-
wholseome winds, which have a bad effect on
the akin and lung*. Th »e must be guarded against,
ere is ne security for health. Tlietffcct of a
course of Dtttcrs is to give vigor and tone to the
entire organization—the superficial muscles and
nerves, as well as tho internal viscera. A regular
habit of body, a healthy and natural flow of bile, an
active digestion, a good appetite, pure blood, and a
Vigorous circulation of that fluid, are among the
blessing* dei ivsbls from a persistent use of Hostel*
Ntomach Bitters, which not only more than
supplies the place of the best tonics, catharthics and
antiseptics prescribed in their separate- forms by
physician*, but perform tho three-fold work of in-
vigoraticn, regulation and purification, si one and
tho ssrao time.
