Memphis, Jaue 18.—KlfcYea destbi
from chafaa to-day,

The Banrtrot yesterday morning con
tained the following in regard to the
prevailing diseaae in Nashville:
Our mortuary figures for Sunday snd
Monday, published elsewhere, do not
fornish an encouraging exhibit. The
prevailing , iseaso, or whatever it may be
called, shows no signs of abating, bat
rather the reverse. As some of our best
physicians insist there is noohulera here,
the eating of stale and unwholesome veg
etables must prevail P a vary consider
able extent. The seven or eignt thou
sand people who have fled from the oity
wisely betook themselves to tbe country,
where vegetables are unknown! When
doctors differ so radically as they do in
Nashville as to what diseaae the people
are dying ot, of ooaise it would be pre
sumptuous for the Banner to undertake
to deoide, and to, as a convenient com
promise, we throw the onus on the nasty
vegetables. The latter eau bo relied on
for efficient duty, be the malady eholera,
cholera mo, oua, summer ooinplaiut, or
the “prevailing disease.’’
A Greensville correspondent of the
Knoxville Press and Herald says in that
paper of Bunday, that—
There ia no loeger any question but
that we have eholera in Greeueville Mr.
A. M. Piper, United States Deputy Rev
enue Collector, was taken aiok on Mon
day lest, and died within forty-eight
hours. Some of our phjaioians pro-
nounoed the direasa cholera; others said
it was not. Then the wife of John At-
rowwood was taken violently ill, snd
died yesterday, her symptom* being un
questionably cholera. Ella Glass, a col
ored womau, came very nearly dying
from the same disease, bat the physioiau*
succeeded in getting up a reaction, and
•he ia recovering. Last evening at 7
o’clock, the wile of United States Dep
uty Marshal W. & Mitchell, wasattaohsd
with the cholera, and died at 8 o’clock
this morning. Mrs. Mitchell wu* a
daughter of Mr. Piper, who died on last
Wednesday. There are several other
serious oaaee in onr towu, and n (treat
many of lighter form. Onr people have
not become panio-stricken, bnt treat the
matter philosophically, preferring to re
main at home and live prudently, to flee
ing to other ports. Ail of the serious
cases have been on the low grounds along
the oresk that runs through our town.
The Press and Hcrald.ot the same date,
published the following special:
Grkkektille, June 14, 10:40 F. s.
Since A. M. Finer’* death, h.a daugh
ter, Mrs. Mitchell, and alao Mrs. Arrow-
wood have died. About a doxiu pel-
were attacked, all of whom are con
valescent hut one. The phyaioiana cell
it aporaiir or idiopotbio cholera. All
precautions are being token, bnt there ia
> senooa alarm. There were no new
sea to day.
Tbe Nashville Banner ol Tuesday con
tained the following :
