A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS there is just reason to believe that f 0
wicked and degenerate person or persons hath ci
trived to Counterfeit some of the bills of the paper curr
money of this state, and hath patted or.circulated foms
the said counterfeit bills to the great, injury of the good p
pie of the said state, and contrary to ,the laws thereof:
order therefore that (uch atrocious offenders may be brou
to condign ptmifhment, I HAVE, by and with the adt
and consent of the Honorable the Executive Council, p ur
ant to a Refolutipn of the Honorable the House of Affeml
thought fit to iffufe this my Proclamation, offering, and I
hereby .offer, a Reward of TWO HUNDRED and FIF
POUNDS to any person or pfcrfons who fliall profccute
convieliVn any offender or offenders guilty of counterfeit
he papfer of medium of this State, or of having
engines, Vools, or other machines for the printing, star
ing, or hiaking the fame, or of counterfeiting the name
names of the signer c* signers thefeof, or of uttering, p;
ing or attempting to pass such counterfeit bill or bills, knc
ing them to be counterfeit ; AND I DO, by authority of
Resolution afbrfcfaid, hereby offer a full Pardon and the
Reward.to ariy person or persons who (hall give informal
and prdfecute to conviction, his, her, or their accompl
or accomplices in the crimes aforefaid ; ANt> I DO furl
strictly command aiid enjoin all Magistrates, Sheriffs, C
(tables, and other Officers, and all persons whatsoever,
be diligent in apprehending and securing such offenders, i
they meet the just puniihmciits of the law. *

state, at Augusta, this twenty-second day of Janu;
